"Come medico e capo dell'amministrazione del Kosovo, sarei un derelitto
se lasciassi continuare questo rischio per la salute dei bambini e delle
donne incinte per un solo giorno di piu'": questa la nobile
dichiarazione con la quale il capo della missione civile dell'ONU
(UNMIK) in Kosmet Bernard Kouchner ha giustificato la occupazione della
parte di Kosovska Mitrovica non ancora "etnicamente ripulita" ed il
sequestro dell'impianto metallurgico di Trepca.
Poiche' gli veniva troppo da ridere, la dichiarazione l'ha resa per
iscritto.

DOSSIER FORZA NUOVA

E’ da un paio d’anni che il nostro periodico, trattando dei
problemi collegati alla rinascita del nazifascismo, si occupa di
analizzare le posizioni e le attivita’ dell’organizzazione Forza Nuova.
Ne denunciammo gia’ due anni or sono la pericolosita’ (diversa da quella
che puo’ essere la pericolosita’ della Fiamma tricolore o di altre
organizzazioni dell’estrema destra): ben prima quindi che l’opinione
pubblica di “sinistra” si accorgesse di Forza Nuova quando questa
organizzazione espresse la propria solidarieta’ a Haider definendolo
“speranza d’Europa”...
In questo dossier intendiamo ricostruire un po’ la storia di
Forza Nuova, analizzare quanto da loro pubblicato (sia nel loro sito
Internet che su carta) e le loro attivita’ correnti, con particolare
riguardo a cio’ che avviene a Trieste, citta’ peculiare per molti
aspetti e che non a torto il poeta Umberto Saba defini’ “la piu’
fascista d’Italia”.
In una lettera apparsa sul quotidiano triestino “Il Piccolo”
(25.2.2000) il responsabile provinciale della sezione triestina di Forza
Nuova, Fabio Bellani, defini’ “evidente mistificazione” quanto scritto
dallo stesso quotidiano in occasione della manifestazione di
contestazione della trasmissione “Circus” di Santoro (presente a
Trieste, ricordiamo, per dibattere del “caso Haider”), ossia l’avere
rilevato la presenza di “Terza posizione”. Che “non esiste piu’ da 20
anni”, scrive Bellani, ed e’ anche vero, pero’ se Forza Nuova non
desidera essere confusa con Terza posizione dovrebbe evitare di
scrivere, come invece fa nei suoi bollettini e documenti “Forza Nuova
per la Terza posizione”. Ma cos’era Terza Posizione?
Scrive Gianni Flamini (“L’ombra della piramide”, Teti editore):
< ... Francesco Mangiameli, Roberto Fiore, Gabriele Adinolfi (...)
stavano fondando una nuova organizzazione e dando alle stampe un
giornale. Si sarebbero chiamati entrambi “Terza posizione” >. Era il
1979, e Flamini cita un brano dei loro scritti: < “Terza posizione
rimuove le stagnanti acque della rassegnazione e si manifesta come polo
per tutti coloro che vogliono disegnare con noi il futuro del nostro
sistema. Dobbiamo considerarci naturali alleati dell’Islam, a cui non
puo’ non andare la nostra stima” >. Il 14.12.1979, in una sede romana
del movimento vengono arrestati tre esponenti di Terza posizione, colti
nel bel mezzo del trasporto di una cassa piena di bombe a mano. Nella
perquisizione successiva la DIGOS trovera’ divise da carabiniere e
guardia di finanza, documenti rubati e falsi, fucili ed esplosivi vari.
Gli “ideologi” del gruppo riparano all’estero: tra essi pure
Roberto Fiore, che dopo quasi vent’anni di “esilio” a Londra
ricomincera’ a costruire un altro gruppo di estrema destra, Forza Nuova
appunto, che si avvarra’ anche di contatti con molti altri movimenti
simili che stanno nascendo un po’ qua e un po’ la’ in Europa.
Un articolo a firma Silvio Maranzana sul “Piccolo” del
27.11.1997 scrive: < Due terroristi dei NAR stanno orchestrando da
Londra lo sbarco in Italia di un nuovo movimento fascista >. L’articolo
ricostruisce l’attivita’ di Fiore e del suo camerata, il cantautore
Massimo Morsello (detto anche il “De Gregori di destra”) latitanti nella
compiacente Londra, dove sono diventati “imprenditori di successo”,
titolari della “Meeting point”, un’azienda che organizza concerti e
turismo scolastico, soggiorni e prevendite di biglietti per partite.
Cosi’ pure, scrive Maranzana, secondo la polizia inglese i Nostri
avrebbero organizzato attraverso la societa’ “Trust of St. Michael the
Archangel” delle vendite di beneficienza per raccogliere fondi
“destinati a fondare in Spagna un villaggio fascista”. Un progetto per
un villaggio spagnolo “dove i nazionalisti di tutta Europa possano
vivere nel nuovo ordine” appare anche, prosegue Maranzana, nel
bollettino interno dell’organizzazione “neonazista” “Third position
international”, tanto per riprendere le solite sigle. All’idea di questo
“villaggio” < Morsello se la ride. “Una citta’ nera? Magari si potesse
costruire, me ne andrei la’ di corsa. Purtroppo pero’ sono tutte
invenzioni di un giornalista” >. Pero’ nel novembre 1999 il quotidiano
“Liberazione” riprendera’ un articolo di “El pai’s” nel quale si legge
che “il gruppo neonazista britannico Terza posizione internazionale”
(toh! coincidenza?) “si appresta a ricostruire un villaggio abbandonato
che ha comprato interamente due anni fa (...) nella regione di
Valencia”.
Quanto alla permanenza a Londra dei due condannati per
associazione sovversiva in Italia, troviamo che il quotidiano “Il
Manifesto” del 5.11.1998 riprende un articolo dell’inglese “Guardian”,
il quale avrebbe sostenuto “sulla base di nuove informazioni di un’ex
agente della CIA in Europa” che Fiore e Morsello sarebbero stati
“reclutati” in Libano nei primi anni ‘80 (si erano li’ rifugiati dopo
essere scappati dall’Italia) dal sevizio segreto inglese Mi6 e che per
questo motivo la Gran Bretagna non concesse mai la loro estradizione
all’Italia.
Non siamo riusciti pero’ a verificare se queste notizie siano
poi state confermate o smentite o semplicemente ignorate.
Morsello che, secondo Gianni Barbacetto in un articolo sul
“Diario” del 19.5.1999, si autodefinisce “fascista, cattolico, latitante
e cantautore politicamente scorretto” e’ rientrato in Italia nella
primavera del ‘99 grazie alla legge Simeone perche’ gravemente ammalato
(si parlo’ di cancro in fase terminale). Ma piu’ di un anno dopo
Morsello pare avere riacquistato la salute, difatti va in giro a fare
concerti e comizi ed e’ intervenuto pure ad una manifestazione a Trieste
nel maggio scorso.
Sempre Barbacetto ricostruisce cosi’ la “genesi” di Forza Nuova,
nata all’inizio come una sorta di movimento d’opinione all’interno della
Fiamma tricolore dove coagulava i militanti attorno al proprio
bollettino, il “Foglio di lotta” (che esce tuttora). Nel 1997 lo stesso
Rauti decise di mettere fine a questa fronda impedendo la diffusione del
“Foglio” e “richiamando i camerati alla disciplina”. Ma a quel punto ci
fu la scissione vera e propria e < Fiore e Morsello, da Londra,
indicarono la data - il 29 settembre, San Michele Arcangelo, protettore
della Guardia di Ferro di Codreanu, il leader del fascismo romeno - in
cui, gettate alle ortiche le vecchie prudenze rautiane, sarebbe
finalmente nata una forza nuova >. In contemporanea si formo’, attorno
ad un gruppo di giornalisti di estrema destra (Mario Consoli, Piero
Sella, Sergio Gozzoli, fondatori del giornale “Uomo Nuovo”) un gruppo
che, avendo un rapporto privilegiato con Le Pen, cercava di costruire un
“Fronte nazionale” anche in Italia.
Parte del nucleo dirigente di Forza Nuova e’ stato coinvolto
nell’inchiesta sugli Hammerskin italiani, facenti parte di quella rete
neonazista internazionale fondata una decina d’anni fa in Texas e poi
diffusasi in Europa, presentantesi come “l’elite dell’elite” degli
skinheads. Il loro simbolo sono due martelli in marcia (quelli che
appaiono nel film “The wall” dei Pink Floyd), e si ritengono < nuovi
cavalieri di un medioevo postmoderno, crociati schierati in difesa
dell’Europa bianca >. Sia il leader milanese degli Hammerskin Duilio
Canu che quello di Padova Alessandro Ambrosino sarebbero poi diventati
dirigenti locali di Forza Nuova.
Viste queste premesse e vista la presenza assidua che Forza
Nuova ha a Trieste da due anni in qua (precisiamo subito che quanto a
presenza numerica alle manifestazioni contano dalle cinque alle trenta
persone al massimo) siamo andati a cercare notizie su di loro, ed ecco
quanto abbiamo tratto dal materiale da essi stessi fornito (sia su
volantini e riviste che sul sito Internet www. forzanuova.org).
Cos’e’ dunque Forza Nuova? Sono fascisti, palesemente fascisti,
non quelle cose addomesticate come A.N. di oggi. Sono corporativisti,
cattolici integralisti, antiabortisti, odiano gli immigrati e i “non
europei” (dove tra questi includono pure, non si capisce a quale titolo,
tutti gli ebrei); sono contrari al divorzio e favorevoli “alla
famiglia”; propugnano uno stile di vita “legionario”, cantano le lodi
della Decima Mas di Borghese come della Falange spagnola di de Rivera,
come della legione romena Arcangelo Michele (toh! chi si rivede) di
Codreanu.
Sono contrari al “bilinguismo” (dove per esso intendono ogni
forma di tutela di qualsivoglia minoranza etnica) e
nell’ipernazionalista Trieste trovano consenso tra tutti coloro che
negano alla comunita’ etnica slovena il diritto di esprimersi nella
propria lingua; cosi’ pure sono contrari alla legge Mancino che
proibisce di dire “s’ciavo” (epiteto dispregiativo che i razzisti
triestini usano per gli sloveni) ed altri insulti di marchio razzista.
Sono contrari alla massoneria ed alle organizzazioni internazionali come
la Trilateral ed il Bilderberg, quali esponenti del mondialismo
capitalista. Che certe frange del terrorismo nero siano state usate in
passato da certa massoneria (P2) non sembra creare loro problemi di
coscienza. O forse e’ anche a cose come queste che si riferiscono quando
parlano di “esempi di machiavellismo negativi” quali “collusioni ambigue
in funzioni di golpe (vero o presunto)” in un articolo sul nuovo ruolo
di A.N. (vedasi il n° 20 del loro bollettino “Foglio di lotta”, che
appare anche nel sito Internet).
Sono populisti, e lo dimostrano con tre delle loro piu’
importanti attivita’: la campagna “compra italiano”, la “Befana
tricolore” e l’associazione “Italica” che organizza campeggi estivi per
“bambini provenienti da famiglie bisognose”.
Nel Bollettino n° 13 vediamo come si strutturano queste
attivita’.

Viene scelta la zona adatta ... un quartiere proletario o povero
... si contattano con una lettera le famiglie dove il capofamiglia e’
senza lavoro o sottoccupato... vengono poi coinvolti tutti i militanti
ed i simpatizzanti del movimento in raccolta di fondi, vestiario,
giocattoli ... viene annunciata la Befana Tricolore con volantini e
manifesti ... si diramano poi comunicati ... le manifestazioni vanno
tenute preferibilmente nelle sedi di Forza Nuova. Il tutto deve essere
poi concluso con un’appello alla popolazione ... per la ricostruzione
del Patrimonio tradizionale e del tessuto sociale della citta’ o del
quartiere >.
A parte la strumentalizzazione politica che traspare da questo
modo di fare “carita’ pelosa” svolgendo le iniziative di beneficienza
(?) nelle sedi del movimento, c’e’ anche altro che da’ da pensare.
L’individuazione delle famiglie che vanno contattate a questo modo
richiede una forte presenza di controllo sul territorio da parte dei
forzanovisti, che del resto strutturano le proprie sedi in maniera molto
“funzionale”, quasi militarista, a leggere le loro indicazioni per i
militanti. Ma fino a che punto si spinge la loro attivita’? Fino ad una
sorta di “schedatura” della popolazione dei quartieri? E cosa puo’
accadere ad una famiglia, che pure “bisognosa”, magari decida per
convinzione antifascista di rifiutare la “Befana tricolore”? In quale
“schedatura” potra’ incorrere?
Il progetto “Compra italiano” (del quale sarebbe tra i maggiori
organizzatori l’ex Hammerskin padovano Ambrosino) invece funziona cosi’:
< e’ ... una campagna lanciata recentemente dalla Corporazione Lucana
... i contadini riuniti sotto la Corporazione Lucana spediscono il loro
camion carico di arance verso le varie citta’ d’Italia dove vengono
gestite in modo autonomo da individui o gruppi legati alle sezioni di
Forza Nuova ... le arance passano di mano una volta sola e vengono
distribuite direttamente dai piccoli distributori sparsi nelle varie
citta’ > (logicamente tutti membri di Forza Nuova...).
E cosa fa invece l’associazione “Italica”? Organizza i “pionieri
d’Italia” la cui “struttura e’ attualmente suddivisa in reparti,
composti da quattro o sei squadriglie con bambini da 6 a 14 anni,
suddivisi in maschili e femminili; a capo di questi reparti vi e’ un
consiglio-capi composto prevalentemente da ex appartenenti ad
associazioni scoutistiche preesistenti. Attualmente si sta pensando di
creare anche un reparto di ragazzi piu’ adulti, quale scuola di
preparazione per la formazione dei consigli capi di tutta Italia >.
Segue (Bollettino n° 17 del settembre ‘98) una descrizione delle
“uscite” di questi “reparti” e di queste “squadriglie”, < in
preparazione del campo estivo che si svolgera’ in Francia ... il
progetto ... e’ stato perfezionato durante le colonie estive Evita Peron
1998 con le quali si e’ potuto sperimentare il metodo che verra’
utilizzato nelle attivita’ pionieristiche >: Colonie queste che Forza
Nuova avrebbe organizzato per venire incontro alle “famiglie bisognose”
(anche qui vediamo una ricerca selettiva delle famiglie cui proporre un
soggiorno estivo per i figli). Iniziativa lodevolissima? Ma la
giornalista Cristiana Mangani del “Messaggero” ha raccolto alcune
testimonianze che sono state pubblicate in un articolo nel giugno ‘98. I
ragazzini da lei sentiti sarebbero stati “reclutati” nelle case ex
Bastogi dalla sezione di Forza Nuova di Cave dei Tirreni, per un
soggiorno gratuito a Gressoney. I genitori, dopo avere inviato i figli
in montagna, allarmati dal tono di una delle telefonate a casa fatta da
un bambino, < hanno preteso che il gruppo tornasse a Roma e si sono
trovati davanti dei ragazzini spaventati, arrabbiati, pieni di graffi e
lividi. Ieri hanno chiamato la polizia e denunciato l’associazione Forza
Nuova ... >. Raccontano i ragazzini: < una volta due di noi sono stati
portati nel bosco perche’ non volevano dormire ... siamo dei bambini
piuttosto vivaci, ma loro ci hanno trattato come rifiuti. Dovete
imparare a vivere, ci dicevano. Vi mettiamo a posto noi >. E un altro: <
Uno di noi ha reagito per la pasta che faceva schifo, lo hanno preso e
sbattuto contro il muro. Se non ti sta bene, gli hanno detto, te ne puoi
anche andare. E hanno aggiunto: vai a fare del bene a persone come
queste >. E via di seguito con racconti simili. Cosi’ conclude la
giornalista: < nessuno pensava di trovare piccoli lord sulle montagne di
Gressoney. Tantomeno pero’ di imbattersi in una scuola di addestramento
per marines >.
Un altro dei cavalli di battaglia di Forza Nuova e’
“l’opposizione all’anticultura” (in effetti il loro linguaggio e’ molto
“contro”, si dichiarano molto “antagonisti”, ricalcando sia vecchie
parole d’ordine di certa sinistra che di altri “vecchi” fascisti alla
Freda e Ventura). Sostengono ad esempio (e purtroppo non hanno tutti i
torti...) che l’insegnamento umanistico nelle scuole, oltre a fare
schifo, viene pure ridimensionato dalle riforme scolastiche per lasciare
piu’ spazio ad altre materie “scientifiche”. Si preoccupano molto
dell’insegnamento della storia, sostenendo che lo studio di essa e’
subordinato alle logiche del potere e che essendo questo in mano alla
sinistra vengono insegnati dei falsi storici funzionali a chi sta al
potere (tenendo presente che i libri di storia sono piu’ o meno sempre
quelli da trent’anni a questa parte e che la “sinistra” e’ al potere da
solo quattro, tutto il discorso ci pare un po’ forzato...).
Ad ogni modo la loro risposta e’ di organizzare < corsi di
Storia da tenere nei propri locali ... tenuti da professori del
movimento o d’area, che ricalchino la struttura dei normali corsi
scolastici e che quindi si rivelino utili agli studenti nei loro studi.
Al termine di questi corsi ... verranno stilate e distribuite dispense
del corso >.
Ci troviamo quindi di fronte ad un movimento politico che e’
organizzato in maniera quasi militarista e che si “autogestisce” (o
quantomeno ha in programma di fare) un mucchio di cose: dalla scuola
alle colonie estive (che sembrano piuttosto campi paramilitari), dalla
distribuzione diretta di generi alimentari al controllo nei quartieri.
Sotto questa luce assume un aspetto particolare anche il nome del loro
“progetto Contropotere”: cosa intendono per “contropotere”? La creazione
di uno stato all’interno dello Stato?
Se ci limitiamo a leggere sui giornali e sui loro bollettini
ufficiali, vediamo che il “progetto Contropotere” appare sostanzialmente
come la creazione di una sorta di centri sociali ideologicamente
schierati all’estrema destra. Uno spazio per iniziative culturali
(secondo il concetto che di “cultura” ha quel tipo di persone,
ovviamente), di socializzazione, per dibattiti, per i loro progetti
“compraitaliano” eccetera.
Nel sito Internet, invece, il progetto Contropotere viene
descritto in ben altro modo.
< L’esperienza degli ultimi anni ci insegna che se pur necessario,
concentrarsi su tematiche politiche del momento puo’ non essere
sufficiente; va compiuto uno sforzo continuo per creare strutture
durature che garantiscano la continuita’ del movimento in caso di
attacchi, tradimenti e atti repressivi ... alcuni movimenti europei si
sono adoperati negli ultimi anni nel gettare semi di contropotere ...
abbiamo visto il progetto villaggio in Spagna, progetto che potrebbe
essere seguito presto da nuove iniziative simili in altri paesi... >.
Domanda: ma se qui Forza Nuova “rivendica” il “progetto villaggio in
Spagna” come mai Morsello s’era tanto preoccupato di negare che
esistessero dei progetti simili, se questi “villaggi” sono iniziative
del tutto innocenti?
Vengono poi descritti tre esempi di queste “nuove iniziative” in
Inghilterra, Normandia ed Irlanda, dove < vi sono tre proprieta’ aventi
in comunte le seguenti caratteristiche:
1) la presenza di vasti appezzamenti di terra;
2) l’appartenenza delle proprieta’ a militanti o associazioni non
lucrative gestite da militanti;
3) la presenza di attivita’ economiche, di struttrue politico-culturali,
di piccole Cappelle >.
In queste proprieta’ (quella inglese comprende 10 ettari di
terreno ed una “casa di notevoli dimensioni” che oltre al resto
comprende anche 5 stanze “per i residenti e gli ospiti”) le “strutture
economiche” consisterebbero in “uno studio per la produzione di video” e
di “edizione, produzione e distribuzione di libri”.
Dulcis in fundo questa considerazione sull’importanza
dell’acquisto di queste proprieta’: < anche nei casi piu’ estremi di
repressione le strutture sono li’ a disposizione di chi continuera’ la
lotta politica. A questo proposito e’ di particolare importanza la
fisionomia giuridica delle associazioni non a scopo di lucro che
garantiscono l’uso delle proprieta’ per fini prestabiliti stabiliti
negli statuti e che proteggono il tutto da possibili atti persecutori >.
Il “progetto Contropotere” cosi’ come descritto somiglia piu’
alla creazione di una serie di basi logistiche che non ad un <
laboratorio di idee dove poter coniugare pensiero ed azione al di fuori
degli schemi imposti dai burattinai del sistema >, come dichiarato da
Fabio Bellani al “Piccolo” del 26.5.1999.
Un altro punto da tenere presente si ricollega a questa
affermazione apparsa nel n° 20 del loro bollettino (estate 1999): < ...
il fenomeno forse piu’ interessante (delle elezioni europee, n.d.r.) e’
il crollo verticale della Lega dell’ormai screditatato Bossi. Forza
Nuova e’ pronta ad accogliere tra le sue fila la base di quel partito
costituita da uomini da sempre anticomunisti, attaccati alle tradizioni
e nemici dei poteri forti sovrannazionali >. In seguito, il 16.10.1999
Haider e’ intervenuto “a sorpresa” al comizio che Bossi stava tenendo a
Vicenza e tale notizia e’ stata data dal periodico “Padania. Lega Nord”
(dicembre 1999) con questo titolo < Il pendolo della storia sta andando
verso la riscoperta dei valori della famiglia e delle radici.
Mitteleuropa: incontro Bossi, Haider. Una lotta comune contro la
globalizzazione dell’Unione Europea e a favore dell’Europa dei popoli >
. Nell’articolo vengono anche riportate le posizioni del leader
austriaco, in sintesi che egli intende lavorare, a livello europeo, solo
con la Lega, alle quali Bossi avrebbe risposto affermando il bisogno di
costruire una “casa comune mitteleuropea” allo scopo di difendere i
popoli dai pericoli della globalizzazione”. Ed ancora dall’articolo
citato: < ... la stampa di regime cerca in tutti i modi di demonizzare
questo nuovo flusso che porta il pendolo della storia ad oscillare nella
direzione dei valori cioe’ della salvaguardia della famiglia e delle
radici dei popoli (....) la Mitteleuropa ha in comune una storia
significativa e comuni valori cristiani... >.
Europa dei popoli, famiglia, cristianita’: gli stessi “valori”
che abbiamo sentito porre come fondamentali anche da Forza Nuova: in una
conferenza indetta da Forza Nuova e tenutasi a Trieste il 6.11.1999, il
direttore della rivista “Uomo libero” Gozzoli (ve lo ricordate?) ha
ribadito la necessita’ di portare avanti un concetto di Europa quale
ordine etnico tra popoli affini per radici di lingua e di sangue, di
affinita’ storiche e di un ordine ideale di Europa come civilta’ da
contrapporre alla globalizzazione imposta dagli Stati Uniti. Cosi’ Forza
Nuova e Lega Nord hanno in comune le posizioni in materia di
immigrazione e sono da subito scese in piazza assieme in molte citta’
(prime fra tutte Padova e Como) per esprimere il loro sostegno a Haider.
Passando alla situazione specificatamente locale, a Trieste
Forza Nuova ha un cavallo di battaglia in piu’ da portare avanti: la
lotta contro il cosiddetto “bilinguismo” (piu’ correttamente la legge di
tutela per la comunita’ etnica slovena che e’ presente nelle provincie
di Trieste e Gorizia storicamente da diversi secoli). Nel corso di
questa “battaglia” Forza Nuova ha trovato l’adesione di uno strano
personaggio, tale Giorgio Rustia, triestino vissuto per trent’anni a
Milano prima di rientrare nella citta’ natale agli inizi degli anni ‘90.
Rustia, che si e’ avvicinato a Forza Nuova dopo avere fondato un
“Comitato di triestini che non parlano lo sloveno” e’ diventato il
referente locale di “Contropotere” per il quale tiene regolarmente
conferenze pseudo-storiche dove tratta della storia recente di Trieste.
In realta’ egli non e’ uno storico, e’ laureato in scienze biologiche,
ma sulle pagine dei giornali locali appaiono spesso sue lettere in
merito alla questione delle foibe e ai rapporti tra italiani e sloveni
in queste terre. Il modo che ha Rustia di fare “controinformazione” su
questi argomenti e’ quello di estrapolare frasi e spezzoni da vari
documenti per darne poi un’interpretazione di parte (come si suol dire,
prendendo una frase di qua ed una di la’ si puo’ riuscire a dimostrare
che il Papa ha celebrato anche una messa nera...). Il tutto e’ teso a
dimostrare una presunta “cattiveria” del popolo sloveno che da decenni
non ha pensato ad altro che cercare di eliminare “l’italianita’” di
queste terre; che Rustia faccia cio’ in perfetta malafede e’ dimostrato
dal fatto che, piu’ di una volta, sulle pagine dei giornali sono apparse
chiarificazioni e smentite delle interpretazioni da lui date a frasi
stralciate di qua e di la’, ciononostante Rustia insiste nel riscrivere
sempre gli stessi concetti.
Questo personaggio a Trieste rappresenta anche il Centro di
studi storici della Guardia Civica (la Guardia Civica fu un gruppo
militare creato dai nazisti dopo l’8 settembre ‘43), pur non avendo
militato nel suddetto Corpo ed e’ anche segretario dell’Associazione
Congiunti Deportati in Jugoslavia, pur non essendo, a quanto e’ dato
sapere, imparentato con alcun “deportato” (a Trieste si usa questo
termine impropriamente per definire i prigionieri di guerra che furono
condotti in Jugoslavia subito dopo la liberazione della citta’ nel
maggio ‘45); ha inoltre stretti contatti con le varie associazioni
combattentistiche comprese quelle dei reduci della Repubblica di Salo’,
unite nell’Associazione Grigioverde.
Sempre riguardo la questione slovena, Forza Nuova ha rilevato
che < all’interno della stessa minoranza ci sono delle divisioni:
infatti, PDS e RC mantengono il monopolio come interlocutori per la
minoranza, mentre vengono sistematicamente fatti da parte quelli che
fanno parte ad altre organizzazioni>. Sorvolando sul fatto che gli
“italianissimi” forzanovisti non sanno scrivere in italiano, vediamo che
nella primavera del 2000 il consiglio regionale ha stanziato 11 miliardi
di finanziamenti ad un “Istituto per gli sloveni del Friuli Venezia
Giulia”, iniziativa che ha visto il plauso di un’unica associazione
slovena, la Comunita’ economico culturale slovena che fa capo a tale
Boris Gombac (e che si richiama politicamente a Lega Nord e Forza
Italia); Gombac e la sua associazione a sua volta starebbero prendendo
contatti con un altro “istituto” per le minoranze etniche, analogamente
promosso dalla Regione Carinzia, ed alla cui presentazione hanno
partecipato uno stretto collaboratore di Haider, Karl Anderwald,
vicedirettore dell’ufficio di presidenza della Regione Carinzia e lo
stesso Gombac.
Leggiamo tutto questo tenendo presenti le avances di Haider per
una “grande Carinzia”, “macroregione” (termine questo caro pure alla
Lega Nord) che comprenda anche il Nordest italiano e la Slovenia.
Andando indietro nel tempo possiamo trovare delle interessanti
analogie tra Forza Nuova (che e’ stata fondata ufficialmente, lo
ricordiamo, nel settembre 1997) e la meno nota associazione denominata
“Nuova Acropoli”, della quale ha parlato la rivista “Cuore” nel numero
del 3.12.1994.
Nuova Acropoli fu fondata in Argentina nel 1957 e si diffuse in
Italia all’inizio degli anni ‘80; cosi’ viene descritta nell’articolo
sopra citato.
< ... 5mila membri nel 1989 (500 solo in Italia) ed un
patrimonio dichiarato di oltre 8 milioni di dollari, Nuova Acropoli e’
“esteriormente un’organizzazione culturale e umanistica, ma nasconde
(...) una struttura piramidale molto rigida ed occulta ai propri adepti
di base” (dal Manuale del Dirigente riservato ai livelli superiori del
gruppo). Al vertice della piramide c’e’ un Comandante Mondiale, dal
potere assoluto, che governa per “decreti” >.
(E’ interessante a questo punto rilevare come il termine
“comandante” sia d’uso ricorrente in certi ambienti: “comandante” era,
per i suoi adepti, Junio Valerio Borghese, il “principe nero” della
Decima Mas; Marco Pirina, lo pseudostorico revisionista di Pordenone che
si dedica da anni a stampare libri pieni di falsita’ storiche allo scopo
di infangare la Resistenza ed il movimento partigiano sostenne, una
volta, di essere stato inquisito per il fallito golpe Borghese solo
perche’ il suo nome si trovava nell’agendina del “comandante” Sandro
Saccucci; Giorgio Rustia, il leader triestino di Contropotere, ha una
volta definito Roberto Fiore, in una conferenza pubblica “comandante
fondatore”).
Continuiamo con l’articolo di “Cuore”.
< Il gruppo dirigente della setta e’ formato dall’ elite degli
“asciati”, gli unici a poter vantare un contatto diretto con il
comandante mondiale. Vengono quindi i semplici membri, suddivisi in tre
strutture dai toni tipicamente hitleriani. C’e’ innanzitutto il “Corpo
di sicurezza”. Indossa divise nere che si richiamano alle SS, simbolo
della folgore compreso e svolge una funzione piu’ o meno mascherata
(...) di vigilanza e di pronto intervento. In Italia ha preso da qualche
anno - subito dopo la “svolta ambientalista” avvenuta nei primi anni ‘80
- il nome di “Dipartimento di protezione civile”. ... si affiancano le
“Brigate Maschili” (...) e le “Brigate Femminili” (...) >.
Vediamo ora se quanto segue ricorda qualcosa di cui abbiamo
parlato prima.
< Nuova Acropoli nel proprio sistema educativo prevede strutture
anche per i piu’ piccoli: l’edificazione dell’Uomo Nuovo ha inizio sin
dalla prima infanzia attraverso (...) una sorta di asilo nido in cui tra
l’altro si insegna la tecnica per riuscire a vedere “Gnomi, elfi e
fate”; quindi, dai 7 ai 14 anni, i bambini vengono divisi tra la
struttura maschile dei “Cavalieri della tavola rotonda” e quella
femminile della “Tavola di Iside”. (...) Nuova Acropoli insegna una
dottrinaccia filosofeggiante in cui l’umanita’ si divide in razze
superiori ed inferiori (...) si associa una malsana etica dell’”uomo
forte”, che comporta l’obbligo di “evitare l’iperprotezione dei piu’
deboli a danno delle persone piu’ importanti...” > eccetera eccetera.
Nuova Acropoli, spiega ancora l’articolo, negli anni Ottanta, al
seguito della “moda” ecologista, si diffuse come associazione
ambientalista che organizzava incontri, seminari, corsi ed attivita’
varie, spesso con il patrocinio delle istituzioni (nel 1989 a Genova, ad
esempio, le Ferrovie affidarono alla locale sezione di Nuova Acropoli la
gestione di un corso per annunciatori nelle stazioni). Ma anche gite per
anziani a Venezia col patrocinio del Comune e la partecipazione del
sindaco; un campo di addestramento “per l’ecologia attiva” nel parco
d’Abruzzo, sotto l’egida dell’Ente parco, dell’aeroclub dell’Aquila, del
Corpo forestale dello Stato e della Regione Abruzzo e via di seguito.
Infine, nell’ottobre del 1989 un “campo” di Nuova Acropoli (una
cascina acquistata qualche anno prima: ricorda niente?) fu perquisito
dai carabinieri della stazione di Montefiascone che vi trovarono
“gagliardetti, labari, coltelli, una radio ricetrasmittente priva di
licenza e numerosi bossoli di pistola” e vi arrestarono un giovane del
“Corpo di sicurezza”. Armi da fuoco furono invece trovate in altre
sezioni non italiane: a Madrid e ad Atene (dove la responsabile fu
condannata a 12 anni di carcere).
Vediamo infine i referenti internazionali di questi “militanti”.
< Il fondatore, Livraga Rizzi, ha rivendicato negli anni ‘70 i
propri rapporti con i circoli golpisti argentini ed uruguagi, con i
cileni di “Patria y libertad”, con la Falange spagnola. Ed anche la
sezione italiana, almeno agli inizi, sfoggia stretti rapporti di
amicizia con quest’area: fondata a Roma nel 1975 (tra il 1976 ed il 1979
aprira’ filiali in quindici citta’) viene inzialmente aiutata da
Serafini Di Luia, fondatore della nazi-maoista Lotta di Popolo, mentre
Gabriele Adinolfi (toh! chi si rivede) uno dei padri di Terza Posizione
incoraggia i propri camerati a frequentare l’organizzazione >.
Infine vediamo come e’ diffusa sul territorio nazionale Forza
Nuova. Nel febbraio 2000 era presente in 10 regioni (Sicilia, Piemonte,
Lombardia, Veneto, Toscana, Abruzzo, Lazio, Campania, Basilicata e
Puglia), un anno dopo le regioni erano diventate 14, con in piu’ Marche,
Umbria, Friuli Venezia Giulia ed Emilia Romagna.
Vediamo la situazione regione per regione. In Piemonte c’era una
sezione a Torino nel ‘99 ed e’ rimasta nel 2000; in Lombardia nel
febbraio 1999 erano aperte le sezioni di Milano, Brescia, Bergamo e
Gallarate; nel 2000 risultano in piu’ una a Campione d’Italia ed una a
Lodi, mentre non c’e’ piu’ quella di Brescia; Veneto: nel 1999 Vicenza,
Padova e Schio, nel 2000 Padova e Verona; Toscana: nel 1999 Lucca,
Casteldelpiano e Grosseto, quest’ultima non risulta nel 2000; Abruzzo
nel 1999 una sede a Pescara e nel 2000 una a Vasto; Lazio: nel 1999
Roma, Cave, Viterbo, Santa Marinella, Sora e Latina, nel 2000 non
appaiono queste ultime tre mentre abbiamo in piu’ Gaeta e Montelanico;
Campania: nel 1999 Napoli, Salerno e Fratta Maggiore, quest’ultima non
c’e’ nel 2000 ma ci sono in piu’ Pianura e Caserta; Basilicata: nel 1999
Bernalda e nel 2000 Metaponto; Puglia: nel 1999 Bari, Fasano, Brindisi e
Taranto, la quale non ci sara’ piu’ nel 2000, pero’ abbiamo in piu’ le
seguenti sezioni: San Michele Salentino, S. Vito dei Normanni, Lecce,
Carmiano, Martina Franca e Santeramo in colle; Sicilia: Palermo nel 1999
come nel 2000; infine nel 2000 abbiamo in piu’ le seguenti sedi:
Falconara nelle Marche; Trieste nel Friuli Venezia Giulia, Bologna in
Emilia Romagna; Perugia in Umbria.
Come si puo’ vedere il massimo dello sviluppo l’organizzazione
l’ha visto nelle Puglie, regione che negli ultimi anni ha assunto due
peculiarita’, collegate tra di loro dai traffici degli “scafisti”:
l’ingresso di “clandestini” in Italia e l’attivita’ di contrabbando che
si e’ trasformata in una e vera propria guerra contro lo Stato.

E’ da un paio d’anni che il nostro periodico, trattando dei
problemi collegati alla rinascita del nazifascismo, si occupa di
analizzare le posizioni e le attivita’ dell’organizzazione Forza Nuova.
Ne denunciammo gia’ due anni or sono la pericolosita’ (diversa da quella
che puo’ essere la pericolosita’ della Fiamma tricolore o di altre
organizzazioni dell’estrema destra): ben prima quindi che l’opinione
pubblica di “sinistra” si accorgesse di Forza Nuova quando questa
organizzazione espresse la propria solidarieta’ a Haider definendolo
“speranza d’Europa”...
In questo dossier intendiamo ricostruire un po’ la storia di
Forza Nuova, analizzare quanto da loro pubblicato (sia nel loro sito
Internet che su carta) e le loro attivita’ correnti, con particolare
riguardo a cio’ che avviene a Trieste, citta’ peculiare per molti
aspetti e che non a torto il poeta Umberto Saba defini’ “la piu’
fascista d’Italia”.
In una lettera apparsa sul quotidiano triestino “Il Piccolo”
(25.2.2000) il responsabile provinciale della sezione triestina di Forza
Nuova, Fabio Bellani, defini’ “evidente mistificazione” quanto scritto
dallo stesso quotidiano in occasione della manifestazione di
contestazione della trasmissione “Circus” di Santoro (presente a
Trieste, ricordiamo, per dibattere del “caso Haider”), ossia l’avere
rilevato la presenza di “Terza posizione”. Che “non esiste piu’ da 20
anni”, scrive Bellani, ed e’ anche vero, pero’ se Forza Nuova non
desidera essere confusa con Terza posizione dovrebbe evitare di
scrivere, come invece fa nei suoi bollettini e documenti “Forza Nuova
per la Terza posizione”. Ma cos’era Terza Posizione?
Scrive Gianni Flamini (“L’ombra della piramide”, Teti editore):
< ... Francesco Mangiameli, Roberto Fiore, Gabriele Adinolfi (...)
stavano fondando una nuova organizzazione e dando alle stampe un
giornale. Si sarebbero chiamati entrambi “Terza posizione” >. Era il
1979, e Flamini cita un brano dei loro scritti: < “Terza posizione
rimuove le stagnanti acque della rassegnazione e si manifesta come polo
per tutti coloro che vogliono disegnare con noi il futuro del nostro
sistema. Dobbiamo considerarci naturali alleati dell’Islam, a cui non
puo’ non andare la nostra stima” >. Il 14.12.1979, in una sede romana
del movimento vengono arrestati tre esponenti di Terza posizione, colti
nel bel mezzo del trasporto di una cassa piena di bombe a mano. Nella
perquisizione successiva la DIGOS trovera’ divise da carabiniere e
guardia di finanza, documenti rubati e falsi, fucili ed esplosivi vari.
Gli “ideologi” del gruppo riparano all’estero: tra essi pure
Roberto Fiore, che dopo quasi vent’anni di “esilio” a Londra
ricomincera’ a costruire un altro gruppo di estrema destra, Forza Nuova
appunto, che si avvarra’ anche di contatti con molti altri movimenti
simili che stanno nascendo un po’ qua e un po’ la’ in Europa.
Un articolo a firma Silvio Maranzana sul “Piccolo” del
27.11.1997 scrive: < Due terroristi dei NAR stanno orchestrando da
Londra lo sbarco in Italia di un nuovo movimento fascista >. L’articolo
ricostruisce l’attivita’ di Fiore e del suo camerata, il cantautore
Massimo Morsello (detto anche il “De Gregori di destra”) latitanti nella
compiacente Londra, dove sono diventati “imprenditori di successo”,
titolari della “Meeting point”, un’azienda che organizza concerti e
turismo scolastico, soggiorni e prevendite di biglietti per partite.
Cosi’ pure, scrive Maranzana, secondo la polizia inglese i Nostri
avrebbero organizzato attraverso la societa’ “Trust of St. Michael the
Archangel” delle vendite di beneficienza per raccogliere fondi
“destinati a fondare in Spagna un villaggio fascista”. Un progetto per
un villaggio spagnolo “dove i nazionalisti di tutta Europa possano
vivere nel nuovo ordine” appare anche, prosegue Maranzana, nel
bollettino interno dell’organizzazione “neonazista” “Third position
international”, tanto per riprendere le solite sigle. All’idea di questo
“villaggio” < Morsello se la ride. “Una citta’ nera? Magari si potesse
costruire, me ne andrei la’ di corsa. Purtroppo pero’ sono tutte
invenzioni di un giornalista” >. Pero’ nel novembre 1999 il quotidiano
“Liberazione” riprendera’ un articolo di “El pai’s” nel quale si legge
che “il gruppo neonazista britannico Terza posizione internazionale”
(toh! coincidenza?) “si appresta a ricostruire un villaggio abbandonato
che ha comprato interamente due anni fa (...) nella regione di
Valencia”.
Quanto alla permanenza a Londra dei due condannati per
associazione sovversiva in Italia, troviamo che il quotidiano “Il
Manifesto” del 5.11.1998 riprende un articolo dell’inglese “Guardian”,
il quale avrebbe sostenuto “sulla base di nuove informazioni di un’ex
agente della CIA in Europa” che Fiore e Morsello sarebbero stati
“reclutati” in Libano nei primi anni ‘80 (si erano li’ rifugiati dopo
essere scappati dall’Italia) dal sevizio segreto inglese Mi6 e che per
questo motivo la Gran Bretagna non concesse mai la loro estradizione
all’Italia.
Non siamo riusciti pero’ a verificare se queste notizie siano
poi state confermate o smentite o semplicemente ignorate.
Morsello che, secondo Gianni Barbacetto in un articolo sul
“Diario” del 19.5.1999, si autodefinisce “fascista, cattolico, latitante
e cantautore politicamente scorretto” e’ rientrato in Italia nella
primavera del ‘99 grazie alla legge Simeone perche’ gravemente ammalato
(si parlo’ di cancro in fase terminale). Ma piu’ di un anno dopo
Morsello pare avere riacquistato la salute, difatti va in giro a fare
concerti e comizi ed e’ intervenuto pure ad una manifestazione a Trieste
nel maggio scorso.
Sempre Barbacetto ricostruisce cosi’ la “genesi” di Forza Nuova,
nata all’inizio come una sorta di movimento d’opinione all’interno della
Fiamma tricolore dove coagulava i militanti attorno al proprio
bollettino, il “Foglio di lotta” (che esce tuttora). Nel 1997 lo stesso
Rauti decise di mettere fine a questa fronda impedendo la diffusione del
“Foglio” e “richiamando i camerati alla disciplina”. Ma a quel punto ci
fu la scissione vera e propria e < Fiore e Morsello, da Londra,
indicarono la data - il 29 settembre, San Michele Arcangelo, protettore
della Guardia di Ferro di Codreanu, il leader del fascismo romeno - in
cui, gettate alle ortiche le vecchie prudenze rautiane, sarebbe
finalmente nata una forza nuova >. In contemporanea si formo’, attorno
ad un gruppo di giornalisti di estrema destra (Mario Consoli, Piero
Sella, Sergio Gozzoli, fondatori del giornale “Uomo Nuovo”) un gruppo
che, avendo un rapporto privilegiato con Le Pen, cercava di costruire un
“Fronte nazionale” anche in Italia.
Parte del nucleo dirigente di Forza Nuova e’ stato coinvolto
nell’inchiesta sugli Hammerskin italiani, facenti parte di quella rete
neonazista internazionale fondata una decina d’anni fa in Texas e poi
diffusasi in Europa, presentantesi come “l’elite dell’elite” degli
skinheads. Il loro simbolo sono due martelli in marcia (quelli che
appaiono nel film “The wall” dei Pink Floyd), e si ritengono < nuovi
cavalieri di un medioevo postmoderno, crociati schierati in difesa
dell’Europa bianca >. Sia il leader milanese degli Hammerskin Duilio
Canu che quello di Padova Alessandro Ambrosino sarebbero poi diventati
dirigenti locali di Forza Nuova.
Viste queste premesse e vista la presenza assidua che Forza
Nuova ha a Trieste da due anni in qua (precisiamo subito che quanto a
presenza numerica alle manifestazioni contano dalle cinque alle trenta
persone al massimo) siamo andati a cercare notizie su di loro, ed ecco
quanto abbiamo tratto dal materiale da essi stessi fornito (sia su
volantini e riviste che sul sito Internet www. forzanuova.org).
Cos’e’ dunque Forza Nuova? Sono fascisti, palesemente fascisti,
non quelle cose addomesticate come A.N. di oggi. Sono corporativisti,
cattolici integralisti, antiabortisti, odiano gli immigrati e i “non
europei” (dove tra questi includono pure, non si capisce a quale titolo,
tutti gli ebrei); sono contrari al divorzio e favorevoli “alla
famiglia”; propugnano uno stile di vita “legionario”, cantano le lodi
della Decima Mas di Borghese come della Falange spagnola di de Rivera,
come della legione romena Arcangelo Michele (toh! chi si rivede) di
Codreanu.
Sono contrari al “bilinguismo” (dove per esso intendono ogni
forma di tutela di qualsivoglia minoranza etnica) e
nell’ipernazionalista Trieste trovano consenso tra tutti coloro che
negano alla comunita’ etnica slovena il diritto di esprimersi nella
propria lingua; cosi’ pure sono contrari alla legge Mancino che
proibisce di dire “s’ciavo” (epiteto dispregiativo che i razzisti
triestini usano per gli sloveni) ed altri insulti di marchio razzista.
Sono contrari alla massoneria ed alle organizzazioni internazionali come
la Trilateral ed il Bilderberg, quali esponenti del mondialismo
capitalista. Che certe frange del terrorismo nero siano state usate in
passato da certa massoneria (P2) non sembra creare loro problemi di
coscienza. O forse e’ anche a cose come queste che si riferiscono quando
parlano di “esempi di machiavellismo negativi” quali “collusioni ambigue
in funzioni di golpe (vero o presunto)” in un articolo sul nuovo ruolo
di A.N. (vedasi il n° 20 del loro bollettino “Foglio di lotta”, che
appare anche nel sito Internet).
Sono populisti, e lo dimostrano con tre delle loro piu’
importanti attivita’: la campagna “compra italiano”, la “Befana
tricolore” e l’associazione “Italica” che organizza campeggi estivi per
“bambini provenienti da famiglie bisognose”.
Nel Bollettino n° 13 vediamo come si strutturano queste
attivita’.

Viene scelta la zona adatta ... un quartiere proletario o povero
... si contattano con una lettera le famiglie dove il capofamiglia e’
senza lavoro o sottoccupato... vengono poi coinvolti tutti i militanti
ed i simpatizzanti del movimento in raccolta di fondi, vestiario,
giocattoli ... viene annunciata la Befana Tricolore con volantini e
manifesti ... si diramano poi comunicati ... le manifestazioni vanno
tenute preferibilmente nelle sedi di Forza Nuova. Il tutto deve essere
poi concluso con un’appello alla popolazione ... per la ricostruzione
del Patrimonio tradizionale e del tessuto sociale della citta’ o del
quartiere >.
A parte la strumentalizzazione politica che traspare da questo
modo di fare “carita’ pelosa” svolgendo le iniziative di beneficienza
(?) nelle sedi del movimento, c’e’ anche altro che da’ da pensare.
L’individuazione delle famiglie che vanno contattate a questo modo
richiede una forte presenza di controllo sul territorio da parte dei
forzanovisti, che del resto strutturano le proprie sedi in maniera molto
“funzionale”, quasi militarista, a leggere le loro indicazioni per i
militanti. Ma fino a che punto si spinge la loro attivita’? Fino ad una
sorta di “schedatura” della popolazione dei quartieri? E cosa puo’
accadere ad una famiglia, che pure “bisognosa”, magari decida per
convinzione antifascista di rifiutare la “Befana tricolore”? In quale
“schedatura” potra’ incorrere?
Il progetto “Compra italiano” (del quale sarebbe tra i maggiori
organizzatori l’ex Hammerskin padovano Ambrosino) invece funziona cosi’:
< e’ ... una campagna lanciata recentemente dalla Corporazione Lucana
... i contadini riuniti sotto la Corporazione Lucana spediscono il loro
camion carico di arance verso le varie citta’ d’Italia dove vengono
gestite in modo autonomo da individui o gruppi legati alle sezioni di
Forza Nuova ... le arance passano di mano una volta sola e vengono
distribuite direttamente dai piccoli distributori sparsi nelle varie
citta’ > (logicamente tutti membri di Forza Nuova...).
E cosa fa invece l’associazione “Italica”? Organizza i “pionieri
d’Italia” la cui “struttura e’ attualmente suddivisa in reparti,
composti da quattro o sei squadriglie con bambini da 6 a 14 anni,
suddivisi in maschili e femminili; a capo di questi reparti vi e’ un
consiglio-capi composto prevalentemente da ex appartenenti ad
associazioni scoutistiche preesistenti. Attualmente si sta pensando di
creare anche un reparto di ragazzi piu’ adulti, quale scuola di
preparazione per la formazione dei consigli capi di tutta Italia >.
Segue (Bollettino n° 17 del settembre ‘98) una descrizione delle
“uscite” di questi “reparti” e di queste “squadriglie”, < in
preparazione del campo estivo che si svolgera’ in Francia ... il
progetto ... e’ stato perfezionato durante le colonie estive Evita Peron
1998 con le quali si e’ potuto sperimentare il metodo che verra’
utilizzato nelle attivita’ pionieristiche >: Colonie queste che Forza
Nuova avrebbe organizzato per venire incontro alle “famiglie bisognose”
(anche qui vediamo una ricerca selettiva delle famiglie cui proporre un
soggiorno estivo per i figli). Iniziativa lodevolissima? Ma la
giornalista Cristiana Mangani del “Messaggero” ha raccolto alcune
testimonianze che sono state pubblicate in un articolo nel giugno ‘98. I
ragazzini da lei sentiti sarebbero stati “reclutati” nelle case ex
Bastogi dalla sezione di Forza Nuova di Cave dei Tirreni, per un
soggiorno gratuito a Gressoney. I genitori, dopo avere inviato i figli
in montagna, allarmati dal tono di una delle telefonate a casa fatta da
un bambino, < hanno preteso che il gruppo tornasse a Roma e si sono
trovati davanti dei ragazzini spaventati, arrabbiati, pieni di graffi e
lividi. Ieri hanno chiamato la polizia e denunciato l’associazione Forza
Nuova ... >. Raccontano i ragazzini: < una volta due di noi sono stati
portati nel bosco perche’ non volevano dormire ... siamo dei bambini
piuttosto vivaci, ma loro ci hanno trattato come rifiuti. Dovete
imparare a vivere, ci dicevano. Vi mettiamo a posto noi >. E un altro: <
Uno di noi ha reagito per la pasta che faceva schifo, lo hanno preso e
sbattuto contro il muro. Se non ti sta bene, gli hanno detto, te ne puoi
anche andare. E hanno aggiunto: vai a fare del bene a persone come
queste >. E via di seguito con racconti simili. Cosi’ conclude la
giornalista: < nessuno pensava di trovare piccoli lord sulle montagne di
Gressoney. Tantomeno pero’ di imbattersi in una scuola di addestramento
per marines >.
Un altro dei cavalli di battaglia di Forza Nuova e’
“l’opposizione all’anticultura” (in effetti il loro linguaggio e’ molto
“contro”, si dichiarano molto “antagonisti”, ricalcando sia vecchie
parole d’ordine di certa sinistra che di altri “vecchi” fascisti alla
Freda e Ventura). Sostengono ad esempio (e purtroppo non hanno tutti i
torti...) che l’insegnamento umanistico nelle scuole, oltre a fare
schifo, viene pure ridimensionato dalle riforme scolastiche per lasciare
piu’ spazio ad altre materie “scientifiche”. Si preoccupano molto
dell’insegnamento della storia, sostenendo che lo studio di essa e’
subordinato alle logiche del potere e che essendo questo in mano alla
sinistra vengono insegnati dei falsi storici funzionali a chi sta al
potere (tenendo presente che i libri di storia sono piu’ o meno sempre
quelli da trent’anni a questa parte e che la “sinistra” e’ al potere da
solo quattro, tutto il discorso ci pare un po’ forzato...).
Ad ogni modo la loro risposta e’ di organizzare < corsi di
Storia da tenere nei propri locali ... tenuti da professori del
movimento o d’area, che ricalchino la struttura dei normali corsi
scolastici e che quindi si rivelino utili agli studenti nei loro studi.
Al termine di questi corsi ... verranno stilate e distribuite dispense
del corso >.
Ci troviamo quindi di fronte ad un movimento politico che e’
organizzato in maniera quasi militarista e che si “autogestisce” (o
quantomeno ha in programma di fare) un mucchio di cose: dalla scuola
alle colonie estive (che sembrano piuttosto campi paramilitari), dalla
distribuzione diretta di generi alimentari al controllo nei quartieri.
Sotto questa luce assume un aspetto particolare anche il nome del loro
“progetto Contropotere”: cosa intendono per “contropotere”? La creazione
di uno stato all’interno dello Stato?
Se ci limitiamo a leggere sui giornali e sui loro bollettini
ufficiali, vediamo che il “progetto Contropotere” appare sostanzialmente
come la creazione di una sorta di centri sociali ideologicamente
schierati all’estrema destra. Uno spazio per iniziative culturali
(secondo il concetto che di “cultura” ha quel tipo di persone,
ovviamente), di socializzazione, per dibattiti, per i loro progetti
“compraitaliano” eccetera.
Nel sito Internet, invece, il progetto Contropotere viene
descritto in ben altro modo.
< L’esperienza degli ultimi anni ci insegna che se pur necessario,
concentrarsi su tematiche politiche del momento puo’ non essere
sufficiente; va compiuto uno sforzo continuo per creare strutture
durature che garantiscano la continuita’ del movimento in caso di
attacchi, tradimenti e atti repressivi ... alcuni movimenti europei si
sono adoperati negli ultimi anni nel gettare semi di contropotere ...
abbiamo visto il progetto villaggio in Spagna, progetto che potrebbe
essere seguito presto da nuove iniziative simili in altri paesi... >.
Domanda: ma se qui Forza Nuova “rivendica” il “progetto villaggio in
Spagna” come mai Morsello s’era tanto preoccupato di negare che
esistessero dei progetti simili, se questi “villaggi” sono iniziative
del tutto innocenti?
Vengono poi descritti tre esempi di queste “nuove iniziative” in
Inghilterra, Normandia ed Irlanda, dove < vi sono tre proprieta’ aventi
in comunte le seguenti caratteristiche:
1) la presenza di vasti appezzamenti di terra;
2) l’appartenenza delle proprieta’ a militanti o associazioni non
lucrative gestite da militanti;
3) la presenza di attivita’ economiche, di struttrue politico-culturali,
di piccole Cappelle >.
In queste proprieta’ (quella inglese comprende 10 ettari di
terreno ed una “casa di notevoli dimensioni” che oltre al resto
comprende anche 5 stanze “per i residenti e gli ospiti”) le “strutture
economiche” consisterebbero in “uno studio per la produzione di video” e
di “edizione, produzione e distribuzione di libri”.
Dulcis in fundo questa considerazione sull’importanza
dell’acquisto di queste proprieta’: < anche nei casi piu’ estremi di
repressione le strutture sono li’ a disposizione di chi continuera’ la
lotta politica. A questo proposito e’ di particolare importanza la
fisionomia giuridica delle associazioni non a scopo di lucro che
garantiscono l’uso delle proprieta’ per fini prestabiliti stabiliti
negli statuti e che proteggono il tutto da possibili atti persecutori >.
Il “progetto Contropotere” cosi’ come descritto somiglia piu’
alla creazione di una serie di basi logistiche che non ad un <
laboratorio di idee dove poter coniugare pensiero ed azione al di fuori
degli schemi imposti dai burattinai del sistema >, come dichiarato da
Fabio Bellani al “Piccolo” del 26.5.1999.
Un altro punto da tenere presente si ricollega a questa
affermazione apparsa nel n° 20 del loro bollettino (estate 1999): < ...
il fenomeno forse piu’ interessante (delle elezioni europee, n.d.r.) e’
il crollo verticale della Lega dell’ormai screditatato Bossi. Forza
Nuova e’ pronta ad accogliere tra le sue fila la base di quel partito
costituita da uomini da sempre anticomunisti, attaccati alle tradizioni
e nemici dei poteri forti sovrannazionali >. In seguito, il 16.10.1999
Haider e’ intervenuto “a sorpresa” al comizio che Bossi stava tenendo a
Vicenza e tale notizia e’ stata data dal periodico “Padania. Lega Nord”
(dicembre 1999) con questo titolo < Il pendolo della storia sta andando
verso la riscoperta dei valori della famiglia e delle radici.
Mitteleuropa: incontro Bossi, Haider. Una lotta comune contro la
globalizzazione dell’Unione Europea e a favore dell’Europa dei popoli >
. Nell’articolo vengono anche riportate le posizioni del leader
austriaco, in sintesi che egli intende lavorare, a livello europeo, solo
con la Lega, alle quali Bossi avrebbe risposto affermando il bisogno di
costruire una “casa comune mitteleuropea” allo scopo di difendere i
popoli dai pericoli della globalizzazione”. Ed ancora dall’articolo
citato: < ... la stampa di regime cerca in tutti i modi di demonizzare
questo nuovo flusso che porta il pendolo della storia ad oscillare nella
direzione dei valori cioe’ della salvaguardia della famiglia e delle
radici dei popoli (....) la Mitteleuropa ha in comune una storia
significativa e comuni valori cristiani... >.
Europa dei popoli, famiglia, cristianita’: gli stessi “valori”
che abbiamo sentito porre come fondamentali anche da Forza Nuova: in una
conferenza indetta da Forza Nuova e tenutasi a Trieste il 6.11.1999, il
direttore della rivista “Uomo libero” Gozzoli (ve lo ricordate?) ha
ribadito la necessita’ di portare avanti un concetto di Europa quale
ordine etnico tra popoli affini per radici di lingua e di sangue, di
affinita’ storiche e di un ordine ideale di Europa come civilta’ da
contrapporre alla globalizzazione imposta dagli Stati Uniti. Cosi’ Forza
Nuova e Lega Nord hanno in comune le posizioni in materia di
immigrazione e sono da subito scese in piazza assieme in molte citta’
(prime fra tutte Padova e Como) per esprimere il loro sostegno a Haider.
Passando alla situazione specificatamente locale, a Trieste
Forza Nuova ha un cavallo di battaglia in piu’ da portare avanti: la
lotta contro il cosiddetto “bilinguismo” (piu’ correttamente la legge di
tutela per la comunita’ etnica slovena che e’ presente nelle provincie
di Trieste e Gorizia storicamente da diversi secoli). Nel corso di
questa “battaglia” Forza Nuova ha trovato l’adesione di uno strano
personaggio, tale Giorgio Rustia, triestino vissuto per trent’anni a
Milano prima di rientrare nella citta’ natale agli inizi degli anni ‘90.
Rustia, che si e’ avvicinato a Forza Nuova dopo avere fondato un
“Comitato di triestini che non parlano lo sloveno” e’ diventato il
referente locale di “Contropotere” per il quale tiene regolarmente
conferenze pseudo-storiche dove tratta della storia recente di Trieste.
In realta’ egli non e’ uno storico, e’ laureato in scienze biologiche,
ma sulle pagine dei giornali locali appaiono spesso sue lettere in
merito alla questione delle foibe e ai rapporti tra italiani e sloveni
in queste terre. Il modo che ha Rustia di fare “controinformazione” su
questi argomenti e’ quello di estrapolare frasi e spezzoni da vari
documenti per darne poi un’interpretazione di parte (come si suol dire,
prendendo una frase di qua ed una di la’ si puo’ riuscire a dimostrare
che il Papa ha celebrato anche una messa nera...). Il tutto e’ teso a
dimostrare una presunta “cattiveria” del popolo sloveno che da decenni
non ha pensato ad altro che cercare di eliminare “l’italianita’” di
queste terre; che Rustia faccia cio’ in perfetta malafede e’ dimostrato
dal fatto che, piu’ di una volta, sulle pagine dei giornali sono apparse
chiarificazioni e smentite delle interpretazioni da lui date a frasi
stralciate di qua e di la’, ciononostante Rustia insiste nel riscrivere
sempre gli stessi concetti.
Questo personaggio a Trieste rappresenta anche il Centro di
studi storici della Guardia Civica (la Guardia Civica fu un gruppo
militare creato dai nazisti dopo l’8 settembre ‘43), pur non avendo
militato nel suddetto Corpo ed e’ anche segretario dell’Associazione
Congiunti Deportati in Jugoslavia, pur non essendo, a quanto e’ dato
sapere, imparentato con alcun “deportato” (a Trieste si usa questo
termine impropriamente per definire i prigionieri di guerra che furono
condotti in Jugoslavia subito dopo la liberazione della citta’ nel
maggio ‘45); ha inoltre stretti contatti con le varie associazioni
combattentistiche comprese quelle dei reduci della Repubblica di Salo’,
unite nell’Associazione Grigioverde.
Sempre riguardo la questione slovena, Forza Nuova ha rilevato
che < all’interno della stessa minoranza ci sono delle divisioni:
infatti, PDS e RC mantengono il monopolio come interlocutori per la
minoranza, mentre vengono sistematicamente fatti da parte quelli che
fanno parte ad altre organizzazioni>. Sorvolando sul fatto che gli
“italianissimi” forzanovisti non sanno scrivere in italiano, vediamo che
nella primavera del 2000 il consiglio regionale ha stanziato 11 miliardi
di finanziamenti ad un “Istituto per gli sloveni del Friuli Venezia
Giulia”, iniziativa che ha visto il plauso di un’unica associazione
slovena, la Comunita’ economico culturale slovena che fa capo a tale
Boris Gombac (e che si richiama politicamente a Lega Nord e Forza
Italia); Gombac e la sua associazione a sua volta starebbero prendendo
contatti con un altro “istituto” per le minoranze etniche, analogamente
promosso dalla Regione Carinzia, ed alla cui presentazione hanno
partecipato uno stretto collaboratore di Haider, Karl Anderwald,
vicedirettore dell’ufficio di presidenza della Regione Carinzia e lo
stesso Gombac.
Leggiamo tutto questo tenendo presenti le avances di Haider per
una “grande Carinzia”, “macroregione” (termine questo caro pure alla
Lega Nord) che comprenda anche il Nordest italiano e la Slovenia.
Andando indietro nel tempo possiamo trovare delle interessanti
analogie tra Forza Nuova (che e’ stata fondata ufficialmente, lo
ricordiamo, nel settembre 1997) e la meno nota associazione denominata
“Nuova Acropoli”, della quale ha parlato la rivista “Cuore” nel numero
del 3.12.1994.
Nuova Acropoli fu fondata in Argentina nel 1957 e si diffuse in
Italia all’inizio degli anni ‘80; cosi’ viene descritta nell’articolo
sopra citato.
< ... 5mila membri nel 1989 (500 solo in Italia) ed un
patrimonio dichiarato di oltre 8 milioni di dollari, Nuova Acropoli e’
“esteriormente un’organizzazione culturale e umanistica, ma nasconde
(...) una struttura piramidale molto rigida ed occulta ai propri adepti
di base” (dal Manuale del Dirigente riservato ai livelli superiori del
gruppo). Al vertice della piramide c’e’ un Comandante Mondiale, dal
potere assoluto, che governa per “decreti” >.
(E’ interessante a questo punto rilevare come il termine
“comandante” sia d’uso ricorrente in certi ambienti: “comandante” era,
per i suoi adepti, Junio Valerio Borghese, il “principe nero” della
Decima Mas; Marco Pirina, lo pseudostorico revisionista di Pordenone che
si dedica da anni a stampare libri pieni di falsita’ storiche allo scopo
di infangare la Resistenza ed il movimento partigiano sostenne, una
volta, di essere stato inquisito per il fallito golpe Borghese solo
perche’ il suo nome si trovava nell’agendina del “comandante” Sandro
Saccucci; Giorgio Rustia, il leader triestino di Contropotere, ha una
volta definito Roberto Fiore, in una conferenza pubblica “comandante
fondatore”).
Continuiamo con l’articolo di “Cuore”.
< Il gruppo dirigente della setta e’ formato dall’ elite degli
“asciati”, gli unici a poter vantare un contatto diretto con il
comandante mondiale. Vengono quindi i semplici membri, suddivisi in tre
strutture dai toni tipicamente hitleriani. C’e’ innanzitutto il “Corpo
di sicurezza”. Indossa divise nere che si richiamano alle SS, simbolo
della folgore compreso e svolge una funzione piu’ o meno mascherata
(...) di vigilanza e di pronto intervento. In Italia ha preso da qualche
anno - subito dopo la “svolta ambientalista” avvenuta nei primi anni ‘80
- il nome di “Dipartimento di protezione civile”. ... si affiancano le
“Brigate Maschili” (...) e le “Brigate Femminili” (...) >.
Vediamo ora se quanto segue ricorda qualcosa di cui abbiamo
parlato prima.
< Nuova Acropoli nel proprio sistema educativo prevede strutture
anche per i piu’ piccoli: l’edificazione dell’Uomo Nuovo ha inizio sin
dalla prima infanzia attraverso (...) una sorta di asilo nido in cui tra
l’altro si insegna la tecnica per riuscire a vedere “Gnomi, elfi e
fate”; quindi, dai 7 ai 14 anni, i bambini vengono divisi tra la
struttura maschile dei “Cavalieri della tavola rotonda” e quella
femminile della “Tavola di Iside”. (...) Nuova Acropoli insegna una
dottrinaccia filosofeggiante in cui l’umanita’ si divide in razze
superiori ed inferiori (...) si associa una malsana etica dell’”uomo
forte”, che comporta l’obbligo di “evitare l’iperprotezione dei piu’
deboli a danno delle persone piu’ importanti...” > eccetera eccetera.
Nuova Acropoli, spiega ancora l’articolo, negli anni Ottanta, al
seguito della “moda” ecologista, si diffuse come associazione
ambientalista che organizzava incontri, seminari, corsi ed attivita’
varie, spesso con il patrocinio delle istituzioni (nel 1989 a Genova, ad
esempio, le Ferrovie affidarono alla locale sezione di Nuova Acropoli la
gestione di un corso per annunciatori nelle stazioni). Ma anche gite per
anziani a Venezia col patrocinio del Comune e la partecipazione del
sindaco; un campo di addestramento “per l’ecologia attiva” nel parco
d’Abruzzo, sotto l’egida dell’Ente parco, dell’aeroclub dell’Aquila, del
Corpo forestale dello Stato e della Regione Abruzzo e via di seguito.
Infine, nell’ottobre del 1989 un “campo” di Nuova Acropoli (una
cascina acquistata qualche anno prima: ricorda niente?) fu perquisito
dai carabinieri della stazione di Montefiascone che vi trovarono
“gagliardetti, labari, coltelli, una radio ricetrasmittente priva di
licenza e numerosi bossoli di pistola” e vi arrestarono un giovane del
“Corpo di sicurezza”. Armi da fuoco furono invece trovate in altre
sezioni non italiane: a Madrid e ad Atene (dove la responsabile fu
condannata a 12 anni di carcere).
Vediamo infine i referenti internazionali di questi “militanti”.
< Il fondatore, Livraga Rizzi, ha rivendicato negli anni ‘70 i
propri rapporti con i circoli golpisti argentini ed uruguagi, con i
cileni di “Patria y libertad”, con la Falange spagnola. Ed anche la
sezione italiana, almeno agli inizi, sfoggia stretti rapporti di
amicizia con quest’area: fondata a Roma nel 1975 (tra il 1976 ed il 1979
aprira’ filiali in quindici citta’) viene inzialmente aiutata da
Serafini Di Luia, fondatore della nazi-maoista Lotta di Popolo, mentre
Gabriele Adinolfi (toh! chi si rivede) uno dei padri di Terza Posizione
incoraggia i propri camerati a frequentare l’organizzazione >.
Infine vediamo come e’ diffusa sul territorio nazionale Forza
Nuova. Nel febbraio 2000 era presente in 10 regioni (Sicilia, Piemonte,
Lombardia, Veneto, Toscana, Abruzzo, Lazio, Campania, Basilicata e
Puglia), un anno dopo le regioni erano diventate 14, con in piu’ Marche,
Umbria, Friuli Venezia Giulia ed Emilia Romagna.
Vediamo la situazione regione per regione. In Piemonte c’era una
sezione a Torino nel ‘99 ed e’ rimasta nel 2000; in Lombardia nel
febbraio 1999 erano aperte le sezioni di Milano, Brescia, Bergamo e
Gallarate; nel 2000 risultano in piu’ una a Campione d’Italia ed una a
Lodi, mentre non c’e’ piu’ quella di Brescia; Veneto: nel 1999 Vicenza,
Padova e Schio, nel 2000 Padova e Verona; Toscana: nel 1999 Lucca,
Casteldelpiano e Grosseto, quest’ultima non risulta nel 2000; Abruzzo
nel 1999 una sede a Pescara e nel 2000 una a Vasto; Lazio: nel 1999
Roma, Cave, Viterbo, Santa Marinella, Sora e Latina, nel 2000 non
appaiono queste ultime tre mentre abbiamo in piu’ Gaeta e Montelanico;
Campania: nel 1999 Napoli, Salerno e Fratta Maggiore, quest’ultima non
c’e’ nel 2000 ma ci sono in piu’ Pianura e Caserta; Basilicata: nel 1999
Bernalda e nel 2000 Metaponto; Puglia: nel 1999 Bari, Fasano, Brindisi e
Taranto, la quale non ci sara’ piu’ nel 2000, pero’ abbiamo in piu’ le
seguenti sezioni: San Michele Salentino, S. Vito dei Normanni, Lecce,
Carmiano, Martina Franca e Santeramo in colle; Sicilia: Palermo nel 1999
come nel 2000; infine nel 2000 abbiamo in piu’ le seguenti sedi:
Falconara nelle Marche; Trieste nel Friuli Venezia Giulia, Bologna in
Emilia Romagna; Perugia in Umbria.
Come si puo’ vedere il massimo dello sviluppo l’organizzazione
l’ha visto nelle Puglie, regione che negli ultimi anni ha assunto due
peculiarita’, collegate tra di loro dai traffici degli “scafisti”:
l’ingresso di “clandestini” in Italia e l’attivita’ di contrabbando che
si e’ trasformata in una e vera propria guerra contro lo Stato.

NATO ATTACK ON NORTHERN MITROVICA MOVES TOWARDS NEW WAR

Early Monday morning, squads of NATO troops seized Northern Mitrovica,
the
only remaining multiethnic part of Kosovo.
Northern Mitrovica, where thousands of Serbs, "Gypsies," Slavic Muslims
and
others driven from the rest of Kosovo lived side by side with local
Serbs,
Albanians and others, was defended by mass, non-violent action from UN
police
abuses and vicious armed assaults by Kosovo 'Liberation Army' forces
trying
to take control.
This popular movement infuriated the NATO humanitarians; hence today's
invasion by French and British NATO troops.
The excuse: to curb 'violence' (that is, the unarmed, non-violent
movement)
and, of all things, to limit pollution at a smelter. Amazing. The same
NATO
that has dropped thousands of deadly cluster (time) bombs on Kosovo's
children, the same NATO, which, as Prof. Chossudovsky has proven,
deliberately created an environmental disaster at Pancevo (1), now is
worried
about...a smelter.
These fabrications insult our intelligence. NATO's real goals: a) to
crush
resistance to KLA fascism, which NATO and the UN have installed
elsewhere in
Kosovo (2) and b) to position NATO troops close to the administrative
border
between Kosovo and inner Serbia, an area that has for months been under
attack by NATO proxy troops of the KLA variety. (3)
Recently Al Gore announced that Sen. Joseph Lieberman will be his Vice
Presidential running mate. This is the same Lieberman who said, while
attending a pro-war rally in Washington last April:
"The "United States of America and the Kosovo Liberation Army stand for
the
same human values and principles...Fighting for the KLA is fighting for
human
rights and American values." ('Washington Post, April 28, 1999)
Recently, George Bush commented that if elected he will immediately
issue an
arrest warrant for Yugoslav Pres. Milosevic. Amazing isn't it how
casually
these men, even half-wits like little-Bush, how casually these men, no
matter
how limited their abilities, assume Imperial Rights. Thus - poof! - and
little Bush issues his threat to arrest - arrest? - the President of a
sovereign country. How does one arrest somebody else's President? No
problem,
didn't big daddy once pulverize a smaller country, Panama, supposedly to
arrest its President? This is Rome, complete with cruelty and greed. All
that's missing is brains.
The Lieberman announcement and the threat by Little Bush, as well as and
today's attack on Mitrovica, make eminently clear that the American
establishment is not through with Yugoslavia. It wishes to escalate the
attack. The Serbs, for a century the obstacle to Imperial conquest of
the
strategic Balkans, must be crushed as a politically coherent force.
By sending British and French troops to seize Northern Mitrovica the
United
States has positioned NATO troops close to the administrative border
with
inner Serbia. This would make it easier for NATO troops (after a
suitable
provocation is invented) to attack inner Serbia from the south and,
simultaneously, to support provocative actions by the weak,
gangster-ridden
quisling regime in Montenegro, where British SAS (Special Forces) are
currently training whatever rifraff they can scrape together (they call
it a
police force) to be used as provocateurs to a) assassinate Yugoslav
officials
and b) provide some incident9s) to 'justify' NATO intervention.
The line, put forward by NATO, that it is Milosevic who wishes to
destabilize
Montenegro and Mitrovica, etc., etc., is ridiculous on the face. Do they
take
us for fools? Are we to accept a comic book vision of world politics in
which
Milosevic plays "Super Bad Guy" to the US "Super Good Guy," where "Super
Bad
Guy" does absurdly self-destructive things for no reason but
irrepressible
malice.
In reality, it is Yugoslavia (its people AND government) who have
suffered
NATO's cruel and unwarranted assaults. It was Yugoslavia which tried,
prior
to last year's bombing, to work out some kind of peace accord and it was
NATO
which presented Yugoslavia with an agreement (which would have
legalizedthe
occupation of all Yugoslavia by NATO troops!) - a proposal designed
precisely
to ensure Yugoslav rejection. It was only Yugoslavia whose parliament
actually discussed this (anti-)peace proposal. Not one of the NATO
democracies voted, by plebiscite or even in parliament, before
initiating the
brutal 78 day bombing of Yugoslav civilians and infrastructure and the
subsequent invasion and ethnic decimation of Kosovo.
We are now attempting to get direct information from Mitrovica. We will
post
whatever we find out as soon as possible.

Early this morning on the 14th of August, forces of NATO's Kosovo Force
swept
into Kosovska Mitrovica and took control of the Trepca Mining Complex.
As I
write this Yugoslav workers are resisting the encroachment of
international
forces. This move is a cynical move designed to cow the Serbian, Roma,
Turk,
Montenegrin, and some of the Albanian population that have refused to
participate in NATO organized elections. Mitrovica is the ONLY city in
Kosovo were these groups live with a measure of security thanks to a
strong
BUT COMPLETELY NON-VIOLENT opposition to KFOR in the city. I have
spoken to
Oliver Ivanovic, leader of the Serbian community and the city, who has
categorically condemned ALL violence in the city. The Serbs,
Montenegrins
and Roma in Mitrovica have been subjected to beatings, bombings, grenade
attacks, kidnappings, etc. yet this is the SAFEST place for these
people in
KLA/NATO controlled Kosovo!!!!! Most minorities in Kosovo live in
ETHNIC
GHETTOES surrounded by BARBED WIRE and NATO forces. Supplies are
limited by
KLA formations which interupt supply routes and threaten to kill groups
attempting to bring assistance to Yugoslav civilians. I will keep you

French troops and Serbs clash in Mitrovica
MITROVICA, Yugoslavia, Aug 14 (Reuters) - A group of 250 Serbian workers
clashed on Monday with French riot police at the lead smelter in
northern
Mitrovica which was earlier seized by NATO peacekeepers, a French
spokesman
said.
``They are stoning the gendarmes,'' French spokesman Colonel Henri
Aussavy
told reporters.
British, French and Danish troops swept in force into Serb-held
Mitrovica
around dawn to shut down the lead smelter that had been pumping toxic
fumes
into the air.
Aussavy said the NATO operation faced further resistance inside the
plant,
where a group of 30 to 40 engineers had locked themselves inside an
administration building, refusing to leave or help U.N. experts shut
down the
smelter.

into Serb-held northern Mitrovica early on Monday to stamp NATO's

witnesses
said.
Dozens of vehicles with British and French troops moved across the River
Ibar, which marks the divide between ethnic Albanian dominated Kosovo
and
northern Mitrovica, the last major urban concentration of Serbs in the
Yugoslav province....
UNMIK TARGETS ZVECAN SMELTING WORKS
KOSOVSKA MITROVICA, August 9 (Tanjug) The United Nations Interim
Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) on Tuesday issued pamphlets
warning citizens of Kosovska Mitrovica against an alleged threat of an
increased level of lead in the atmosphere and an "epidemiological
crisis."
Director General Novak Bijelic of the Trepca mining complex,
which
includes a smelting works, reacted with a statement saying this was an
attempt to prepare public opinion in favor of closing down the Zvecan
smelting works near Pristina which employs Serbs. This action would
jeopardize the survival of the remaining Serb workers in this area,
Bijelic
said.
UNMIK can close down the smelting works "by force only,"
Bijelic
said, underscoring that air pollution is checked on a daily basis and
that
there are no indications of any contamination. Trepca invested over 10
million Dmarks in the most uptodate filters for a safe environment in
1991,
he said.
"The workers will not sit idle while someone tries to push them
out of their ancestral homes and jobs," Bijelic said.

Kosovo Mining Complex Taken Over

ZVECAN, Yugoslavia (AP) - NATO-led peacekeepers took control of a
Serb-run
mining complex in the northern part of Kosovo in a pre-dawn raid Monday.
British peacekeepers acting in support the U.N. mission seized the
premises
of the lead smelter near Kosovoska Mitrovica. The United Nations said
last
week the plant was spewing pollution into the air, raising lead levels
to 200
times the accepted norms.
U.N. spokesman Michael Keats confirmed the operation was under way.
News of the lead levels sparked a rare moment of solidarity in the
divided
city of Kosovoska Mitrovica, prompting Serb and ethnic Albanian leaders
to
join U.N. personnel in publicly having their blood tested.
Kosovo Serb leader Oliver Ivanovic claimed the lead scare was a ruse,
however, to be used as an excuse for the United Nations to take over the
Zvecan plant...

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA, Aug 13 (Tanjug) The U.N. civilian mission
to
KosovoMetohija (UNMIK) is spreading disturbing untruths about pollution
from the Trepca mining complex in order to put Trepca out of commission,
according to a statement from Trepca on Sunday.
The sole purpose of UNMIK's allegations about high levels of
pollution in Kosovska Mitrovica is "to prevent Trepca, which gives their
livelihood to a large number of people in Kosovska Mitrovica and beyond,
to
go on working", the statement said.
The statement was prompted by a recent UNMIK pamphlet
distributed
in Pristina and alleging excessive air, water and soil pollution with
lead
from the Trepca smelting plant in Zvecan, in the Yugoslav republic of
Serbia's U.N.run KosovoMetohija province.
"We call this a pamphlet, because UNMIK offered untruths and
false
care for our health and our fate instead of giving the true facts", said
the statement, addressed by the mining, chemical and metallurgical
complex
to the people in divided Kosovska Mitrovica.
The Zvecan lead smelting plant has been in operation since
1939,
not 1991, as claimed by UNMIK, and has stopped work only for occasional
overhauls and during NATO's aggression from March to June 1999.
The 306metre smokestack, built in 1972, as well as equipment
and
installations for purifying waste gases, in which more than 10 million
German marks have been invested, are best evidence that the people's
health
was a consideration long before UNMIK's deployment.
Thousands of Trepca's employees workers, experts and
executives work at and live in the immediate vicinity of the Zvecan
lead
smelting plant, and they certainly care much more about their own health
than UNMIK ever could, the Trepca statement said.
Daily sampling of the air, water and soil shows that these are
protected from pollution by lead, gas and dust and that there is no
reason
for UNMIK's socalled "concern".
In its statement, Trepca quoted results of tests for the
presence
of heavy metals in the air at several checkpoints in Kosovska Mitrovica
in
the JuneJuly period.
According to these results, there was .12 milligrams of lead
per
cubic metre (permitted level .15 mg), .019 mg of zinc (permitted level
.4
mg), copper .004 mg (permitted level .01 mg), iron .002 mg (permitted
level
.2 mg), etc.
"If UNMIK experts are concerned for the children and pregnant
women in Kosovska Mitrovica, they should take care of the waste gases
from
their own heavyduty vehicles that throng our roads at all hours and
poison
the people", the statement said.

bandits, in collusion with international force KFor officials, have for
more than a month been hauling off rolling stock from U.N.run
KosovoMetohija to Macedonia, according to reports on Sunday.
Amateur radio operators in that U.N.run Serbian (Yugoslav)
province say that railway waggons are being taken from Kosovo Polje to
the
iron works in Skopje, probably to be sold as scrap iron, thus causing
heavy
losses to the Yugoslav railway company.
More than onehalf of the 450plus old and decommissioned waggons
parked on the track between Dobrevo and the Kisnica mine have been
hauled
away.
Since the KosovoMetohija section of the YugoslavMacedonian
border
is controlled by KFor, the greatest responsibility for the theft rests
with
the international force.
ETHNIC ALBANIAN EXTREMISTS START FOREST FIRES IN KOSOVOMETOHIJA
NOVO BRDO, Serbia, August 12 (Tanjug) Ethnic Albanian
extremists
on Friday set fire to the woods in the vicinity of a Serb village in the
Yugoslav Republic of Serbia's U.N.administered KosovoMetohija province,
according to reports.
Amateur radio operators inform that the socalled international
force KFor fire brigade, made up solely of ethnic Albanians, never even
tried to put out the fires, which are raging around the village of Izvor
in
the Novo Brdo municipality in east KosovoMetohija.
The fires are ravaging the forests of Lazovi, Glog and Vrbina,
which were the source of highquality firewood for the local Serb.
After villagers of Izvor reported the fires, KFor troops
quickly
came out to inspect the scene, together with the fire brigade, but then
equally quickly left, without having tried to intervene at all.
The people in Izvor suspect that the fires were set by their
neighbours in the purely ethnic Albanian populated village of Vlasce,
according to amateur radio operators.
ETHNIC ALBANIAN TERRORISTS SHOOT AT SERB CONVOY
PASJANE, August 8 (Tanjug) Ethnic Albanian terrorists fired
shots
at Serbs travelling late on Monday in a convoy of cars from the
southSerbian town of Presevo to the village of Pasjane, near the town of
Gnjilane, situated in the east of the KFORadministered Serbian province
of
Kosovo and Metohija.
Serb Ljubisa Cuparevic from the village of Donje Budrige
sustained
injuries in the incident that occurred near the permanent checkpoint of

SAUDI AID WORKERS BULLDOZE BALKAN MONUMENTS

The Saudi bulldozing of some of the most historically
valuable architectural monuments in the western Kosova market
town of Djakovica is merely the latest in a series of
iconoclastic activities in the Balkans undertaken in the name
of reconstruction assistance by Arab aid organizations. War-
damaged historic buildings are not repaired, but rather
demolished to make way for what the Arab donors consider to
be more proper Islamic structures.
The destruction is a further blow to Kosova's
architectural heritage, following the destruction by Serbian
forces and civilians in 1998 and 1999 of over 200 mosques and
other Islamic structures--about one-third of the total number
in the province.
Harvard University Fine Arts librarian Andras
Riedlmayer, the co-author of a survey of Kosova's war-damaged
architectural sites, is outraged by the Saudi demolition
program.
"Unfortunately, a Saudi aid agency got permits from the
local reconstruction agency and from the local institute for
the preservation of monuments to work on the restoration, so
to speak, of the Hadum mosque complex in the center of the
historic district."
Riedlmayer says the Saudis began on 24 July by trying to
knock down all the Ottoman-era gravestones in the cemetery of
the Hadum mosque.
"The Saudis were interested in removing them because
they consider gravestones to be idolatrous. They are
followers of Wahhabism, which is an extremist interpretation
of Islam at odds with the practice of most of the Muslim
world."
The Wahhabis are a purist movement founded in the 18th
century by Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab (c. 1703-1791). He
converted the Saud tribe, which now rules Saudi Arabia. The
Wahhabis are the largest and most powerful Muslim sect in
Saudi Arabia.
Riedlmayer says the Saudis are obsessed with having all
ancient tombstones, mausoleums, and Sufi shrines located near
mosques eliminated, since--unlike most Muslims in the world
today--the Wahhabis believe these to be "un-Islamic" and
idolatrous. He said: "the Wahhabis, with their wealth and
fanaticism, are a menace to heritage, in some ways more
dangerous than the [Serb paramilitary] Chetniks, since about
the latter, at least, no one harbors any illusions regarding
their uncharitable intentions."
The Saudi Joint Relief Committee for the People of
Kosovo and Chechnya, established by royal decree, has built
mosques, schools, clinics, and shelters for displaced
persons. It has also supplied the province with several
hundred tons of medicine, food, blankets, tents, and clothing
during the last 13 months.
But spreading the message of Wahhabi Islam appears to be
another aim of the committee. The new mosques are white, boxy
structures devoid of detail--a far cry from the centuries-old
Ottoman-style mosques that characterize the urban and village
landscape in much of the Balkans.
Riedlmayer says NATO-led KFOR peacekeepers declined to
intervene in Djakovica after the Saudis showed their
authorized papers.
"Eventually the Department of Culture in UNMIK (the UN
administration) was notified. They spoke with the Saudis on
[27 July] and tried to get them to desist. However, on [28
July], the Saudis sent in a bulldozer [and] knocked down the
buildings around the Hadum mosque, including the library
built in 1733 and ancient gravestones in the graveyard."
The Hadum mosque itself, which survived last year's
fighting largely intact--despite fire damage to its porch and
grenade damage to its minaret--remains endangered. If the
past is prologue, the frescoes could soon be whitewashed by
Wahhabi purists.
Attempts by RFE/RL to contact the UNMIK-Joint Interim
Administration's Department of Culture, the Kosovo Institute
for the Protection of Monuments, or the Saudi Joint Relief
Committee in Kosovo were unsuccessful.
However, Peruvian Alvaro Higueras, from the UNMIK
Culture Department, confirmed in a telephone call to
Riedlmayer on 3 August that the Saudis had razed the library
and Koran school.
Higueras said the Saudis planned to build a reinforced
concrete Islamic center on the cleared site. But the UNMIK
official says the Saudis applied for permission for a
restoration project, not for new construction. Higueras says
an order has now been issued to stop construction
indefinitely. He says the Saudis will have to "undo the
damage" and restore the Ottoman-era buildings using
traditional materials and techniques.
Riedlmayer has documented cases in which the Saudi and
other Arab aid agencies have destroyed other historic Islamic
buildings elsewhere in Kosova, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and
Bulgaria.
Last October, while Riedlmayer was in Kosova conducting
a survey of war-damaged architectural heritage, he witnessed
the destruction of Muslim cemeteries in Vushtrri. He says an
Islamic aid agency from the United Arab Emirates had
pressured local Albanian residents to sledgehammer the graves
of their ancestors, completely clearing two historic
graveyards next to the Gazi Ali Beg and Karamanli mosques of
more than 100 gravestones dating back to the 15th century.
Only the grave marker of Gazi Ali Beg himself remained, as
the locals refused to allow that one to be smashed.
Riedlmayer says the UAE aid agency promised to rebuild
the damaged mosques "twice as big and twice as Islamic," but
only if the gravestones were removed. He says the agency, the
largest aid organization in the town, also made an implicit
threat to withhold humanitarian aid if the donors' request
was ignored.
Riedlmayer notes that during and immediately after the
war in Bosnia (1992-95), a Saudi aid agency took charge of
the restoration of the Gazi Husrev Beg mosque (Begova
dzamija) as well as other historic mosques in Sarajevo and in
many other towns and villages.
At the Beg mosque, the Saudis ordered the Ottoman tile
work and painted wall decorations stripped off and discarded
and had the whole building redone, as Riedlmayer puts it "in
gleaming hospital white, even the minaret slathered in white
plaster." He says that in scores of villages, the Saudis had
war-damaged but restorable historic Ottoman-style Bosnian
mosques demolished and redone Saudi-style. All of the
colorful Balkan-Muslim interior decor was eliminated, and
separate entrances were added to segregate women.
To drive home the significance of the Saudi destruction
in the Balkans, Riedlmayer says, "Imagine, if you will, some
terrible catastrophe affecting the historic churches of Rome
and Tuscany, and then having" modern-day U.S. Christian sects
coming in and insisting that they be redone in "proper
Christian style."

Liaising with the U.N. mission, Jovica
Jovanovic and Radovan Redzic, were
harassed by Belgian KFOR troops at
a KFOR checkpoint in Donje Jerinje.
According to Jovanovic, the KFOR
troops stopped the Yugoslavs' car,
demanded personal identification papers from the two passengers, and
then proceeded to search the vehicle, including the two Yugoslav
diplomats' personal belongings.
The Belgians then insisted on taking photos of the Yugoslavs, dragged
Redzic to a barrack a few meters away, kicked him, put him up against
the wall and forcefully took his photo.

Serbian soldiers made a probing incursion into Kosovo two weeks ago in
the worst breach yet of the agreement that ended Nato's bombing campaign
last year, the US forces newspaper, Stars and Stripes, said yesterday.
US forces scrambled Apache helicopters to confront the group of armed
and uniformed Serbs in two all-terrain vehicles who retreated across the
dividing line between Kosovo and the rest of Serbia, the paper said.
The incident took place on July 28 in the mountains of eastern Kosovo,
near Serbia's Presevo valley, where there have been clashes between
Serbian police and a group of ethnic Albanians seeking independence from
Belgrade.
Shortly after the alleged incursion, peacekeepers said they had stepped
up security in the Presevo area to try to stop the ethnic Albanian UCPMB
group from operating. US forces had reported seeing mortar fire and
other military activity.
Officials of the US military contingent that patrols the area refused to
respond to questions about the incident and Nato spokesman Major Craig
Snow in Pristina said he could not confirm that Serbian forces had
crossed into Kosovo. "We've not been commenting on specific incidents,"
Maj Snow said.
Serb army and police units pulled out of Kosovo in July last year as
part of an agreement that ended Nato's 78-day bombing campaign of
Serb-dominated Yugoslavia.
The Serb incursion, if confirmed, would be regarded by Nato as a test of
its commitment to control the movement of UCPMB guerrillas who operate
out of Kosovo and have been trying the patience of the Serb military in
Presevo.

NATO ATTACK ON NORTHERN MITROVICA MOVES TOWARDS NEW WAR

Early Monday morning, squads of NATO troops seized Northern Mitrovica,
the
only remaining multiethnic part of Kosovo.
Northern Mitrovica, where thousands of Serbs, "Gypsies," Slavic Muslims
and
others driven from the rest of Kosovo lived side by side with local
Serbs,
Albanians and others, was defended by mass, non-violent action from UN
police
abuses and vicious armed assaults by Kosovo 'Liberation Army' forces
trying
to take control.
This popular movement infuriated the NATO humanitarians; hence today's
invasion by French and British NATO troops.
The excuse: to curb 'violence' (that is, the unarmed, non-violent
movement)
and, of all things, to limit pollution at a smelter. Amazing. The same
NATO
that has dropped thousands of deadly cluster (time) bombs on Kosovo's
children, the same NATO, which, as Prof. Chossudovsky has proven,
deliberately created an environmental disaster at Pancevo (1), now is
worried
about...a smelter.
These fabrications insult our intelligence. NATO's real goals: a) to
crush
resistance to KLA fascism, which NATO and the UN have installed
elsewhere in
Kosovo (2) and b) to position NATO troops close to the administrative
border
between Kosovo and inner Serbia, an area that has for months been under
attack by NATO proxy troops of the KLA variety. (3)
Recently Al Gore announced that Sen. Joseph Lieberman will be his Vice
Presidential running mate. This is the same Lieberman who said, while
attending a pro-war rally in Washington last April:
"The "United States of America and the Kosovo Liberation Army stand for
the
same human values and principles...Fighting for the KLA is fighting for
human
rights and American values." ('Washington Post, April 28, 1999)
Recently, George Bush commented that if elected he will immediately
issue an
arrest warrant for Yugoslav Pres. Milosevic. Amazing isn't it how
casually
these men, even half-wits like little-Bush, how casually these men, no
matter
how limited their abilities, assume Imperial Rights. Thus - poof! - and
little Bush issues his threat to arrest - arrest? - the President of a
sovereign country. How does one arrest somebody else's President? No
problem,
didn't big daddy once pulverize a smaller country, Panama, supposedly to
arrest its President? This is Rome, complete with cruelty and greed. All
that's missing is brains.
The Lieberman announcement and the threat by Little Bush, as well as and
today's attack on Mitrovica, make eminently clear that the American
establishment is not through with Yugoslavia. It wishes to escalate the
attack. The Serbs, for a century the obstacle to Imperial conquest of
the
strategic Balkans, must be crushed as a politically coherent force.
By sending British and French troops to seize Northern Mitrovica the
United
States has positioned NATO troops close to the administrative border
with
inner Serbia. This would make it easier for NATO troops (after a
suitable
provocation is invented) to attack inner Serbia from the south and,
simultaneously, to support provocative actions by the weak,
gangster-ridden
quisling regime in Montenegro, where British SAS (Special Forces) are
currently training whatever rifraff they can scrape together (they call
it a
police force) to be used as provocateurs to a) assassinate Yugoslav
officials
and b) provide some incident9s) to 'justify' NATO intervention.
The line, put forward by NATO, that it is Milosevic who wishes to
destabilize
Montenegro and Mitrovica, etc., etc., is ridiculous on the face. Do they
take
us for fools? Are we to accept a comic book vision of world politics in
which
Milosevic plays "Super Bad Guy" to the US "Super Good Guy," where "Super
Bad
Guy" does absurdly self-destructive things for no reason but
irrepressible
malice.
In reality, it is Yugoslavia (its people AND government) who have
suffered
NATO's cruel and unwarranted assaults. It was Yugoslavia which tried,
prior
to last year's bombing, to work out some kind of peace accord and it was
NATO
which presented Yugoslavia with an agreement (which would have
legalizedthe
occupation of all Yugoslavia by NATO troops!) - a proposal designed
precisely
to ensure Yugoslav rejection. It was only Yugoslavia whose parliament
actually discussed this (anti-)peace proposal. Not one of the NATO
democracies voted, by plebiscite or even in parliament, before
initiating the
brutal 78 day bombing of Yugoslav civilians and infrastructure and the
subsequent invasion and ethnic decimation of Kosovo.
We are now attempting to get direct information from Mitrovica. We will
post
whatever we find out as soon as possible.

Early this morning on the 14th of August, forces of NATO's Kosovo Force
swept
into Kosovska Mitrovica and took control of the Trepca Mining Complex.
As I
write this Yugoslav workers are resisting the encroachment of
international
forces. This move is a cynical move designed to cow the Serbian, Roma,
Turk,
Montenegrin, and some of the Albanian population that have refused to
participate in NATO organized elections. Mitrovica is the ONLY city in
Kosovo were these groups live with a measure of security thanks to a
strong
BUT COMPLETELY NON-VIOLENT opposition to KFOR in the city. I have
spoken to
Oliver Ivanovic, leader of the Serbian community and the city, who has
categorically condemned ALL violence in the city. The Serbs,
Montenegrins
and Roma in Mitrovica have been subjected to beatings, bombings, grenade
attacks, kidnappings, etc. yet this is the SAFEST place for these
people in
KLA/NATO controlled Kosovo!!!!! Most minorities in Kosovo live in
ETHNIC
GHETTOES surrounded by BARBED WIRE and NATO forces. Supplies are
limited by
KLA formations which interupt supply routes and threaten to kill groups
attempting to bring assistance to Yugoslav civilians. I will keep you

French troops and Serbs clash in Mitrovica
MITROVICA, Yugoslavia, Aug 14 (Reuters) - A group of 250 Serbian workers
clashed on Monday with French riot police at the lead smelter in
northern
Mitrovica which was earlier seized by NATO peacekeepers, a French
spokesman
said.
``They are stoning the gendarmes,'' French spokesman Colonel Henri
Aussavy
told reporters.
British, French and Danish troops swept in force into Serb-held
Mitrovica
around dawn to shut down the lead smelter that had been pumping toxic
fumes
into the air.
Aussavy said the NATO operation faced further resistance inside the
plant,
where a group of 30 to 40 engineers had locked themselves inside an
administration building, refusing to leave or help U.N. experts shut
down the
smelter.

into Serb-held northern Mitrovica early on Monday to stamp NATO's
authority
on the area and try to shut down a heavily polluting lead smelter,
witnesses
said.
Dozens of vehicles with British and French troops moved across the River
Ibar, which marks the divide between ethnic Albanian dominated Kosovo
and
northern Mitrovica, the last major urban concentration of Serbs in the
Yugoslav province....
UNMIK TARGETS ZVECAN SMELTING WORKS
KOSOVSKA MITROVICA, August 9 (Tanjug) The United Nations Interim
Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) on Tuesday issued pamphlets
warning citizens of Kosovska Mitrovica against an alleged threat of an
increased level of lead in the atmosphere and an "epidemiological
crisis."
Director General Novak Bijelic of the Trepca mining complex,
which
includes a smelting works, reacted with a statement saying this was an
attempt to prepare public opinion in favor of closing down the Zvecan
smelting works near Pristina which employs Serbs. This action would
jeopardize the survival of the remaining Serb workers in this area,
Bijelic
said.
UNMIK can close down the smelting works "by force only,"
Bijelic
said, underscoring that air pollution is checked on a daily basis and
that
there are no indications of any contamination. Trepca invested over 10
million Dmarks in the most uptodate filters for a safe environment in
1991,
he said.
"The workers will not sit idle while someone tries to push them
out of their ancestral homes and jobs," Bijelic said.

Kosovo Mining Complex Taken Over

ZVECAN, Yugoslavia (AP) - NATO-led peacekeepers took control of a
Serb-run
mining complex in the northern part of Kosovo in a pre-dawn raid Monday.
British peacekeepers acting in support the U.N. mission seized the
premises
of the lead smelter near Kosovoska Mitrovica. The United Nations said
last
week the plant was spewing pollution into the air, raising lead levels
to 200
times the accepted norms.
U.N. spokesman Michael Keats confirmed the operation was under way.
News of the lead levels sparked a rare moment of solidarity in the
divided
city of Kosovoska Mitrovica, prompting Serb and ethnic Albanian leaders
to
join U.N. personnel in publicly having their blood tested.
Kosovo Serb leader Oliver Ivanovic claimed the lead scare was a ruse,
however, to be used as an excuse for the United Nations to take over the
Zvecan plant...

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA, Aug 13 (Tanjug) The U.N. civilian mission
to
KosovoMetohija (UNMIK) is spreading disturbing untruths about pollution
from the Trepca mining complex in order to put Trepca out of commission,
according to a statement from Trepca on Sunday.
The sole purpose of UNMIK's allegations about high levels of
pollution in Kosovska Mitrovica is "to prevent Trepca, which gives their
livelihood to a large number of people in Kosovska Mitrovica and beyond,
to
go on working", the statement said.
The statement was prompted by a recent UNMIK pamphlet
distributed
in Pristina and alleging excessive air, water and soil pollution with
lead
from the Trepca smelting plant in Zvecan, in the Yugoslav republic of
Serbia's U.N.run KosovoMetohija province.
"We call this a pamphlet, because UNMIK offered untruths and
false
care for our health and our fate instead of giving the true facts", said
the statement, addressed by the mining, chemical and metallurgical
complex
to the people in divided Kosovska Mitrovica.
The Zvecan lead smelting plant has been in operation since
1939,
not 1991, as claimed by UNMIK, and has stopped work only for occasional
overhauls and during NATO's aggression from March to June 1999.
The 306metre smokestack, built in 1972, as well as equipment
and
installations for purifying waste gases, in which more than 10 million
German marks have been invested, are best evidence that the people's
health
was a consideration long before UNMIK's deployment.
Thousands of Trepca's employees workers, experts and
executives work at and live in the immediate vicinity of the Zvecan
lead
smelting plant, and they certainly care much more about their own health
than UNMIK ever could, the Trepca statement said.
Daily sampling of the air, water and soil shows that these are
protected from pollution by lead, gas and dust and that there is no
reason
for UNMIK's socalled "concern".
In its statement, Trepca quoted results of tests for the
presence
of heavy metals in the air at several checkpoints in Kosovska Mitrovica
in
the JuneJuly period.
According to these results, there was .12 milligrams of lead
per
cubic metre (permitted level .15 mg), .019 mg of zinc (permitted level
.4
mg), copper .004 mg (permitted level .01 mg), iron .002 mg (permitted
level
.2 mg), etc.
"If UNMIK experts are concerned for the children and pregnant
women in Kosovska Mitrovica, they should take care of the waste gases
from
their own heavyduty vehicles that throng our roads at all hours and
poison
the people", the statement said.
On the other hand, it is a wellknown fact that NATO's merciless
bombing of KosovoMetohija last year and use of banned weapons, such as
depleted uranium and cluster bombs, have caused an environmental
disaster
with unforeseeable longterm consequences, it added.
Regrettably, UNMIK has shown not the least concern for the
people
suffering the consequences of the horrors of war strewn all over our
land,
Trepca said in Kosovska Mitrovica.

KOSOVO POLJE/DOBREVO, Serbia, Aug 13 (Tanjug) Ethnic Albanian
bandits, in collusion with international force KFor officials, have for
more than a month been hauling off rolling stock from U.N.run
KosovoMetohija to Macedonia, according to reports on Sunday.
Amateur radio operators in that U.N.run Serbian (Yugoslav)
province say that railway waggons are being taken from Kosovo Polje to
the
iron works in Skopje, probably to be sold as scrap iron, thus causing
heavy
losses to the Yugoslav railway company.
More than onehalf of the 450plus old and decommissioned waggons
parked on the track between Dobrevo and the Kisnica mine have been
hauled
away.
Since the KosovoMetohija section of the YugoslavMacedonian
border
is controlled by KFor, the greatest responsibility for the theft rests
with
the international force.
ETHNIC ALBANIAN EXTREMISTS START FOREST FIRES IN KOSOVOMETOHIJA
NOVO BRDO, Serbia, August 12 (Tanjug) Ethnic Albanian
extremists
on Friday set fire to the woods in the vicinity of a Serb village in the
Yugoslav Republic of Serbia's U.N.administered KosovoMetohija province,
according to reports.
Amateur radio operators inform that the socalled international
force KFor fire brigade, made up solely of ethnic Albanians, never even
tried to put out the fires, which are raging around the village of Izvor
in
the Novo Brdo municipality in east KosovoMetohija.
The fires are ravaging the forests of Lazovi, Glog and Vrbina,
which were the source of highquality firewood for the local Serb.
After villagers of Izvor reported the fires, KFor troops
quickly
came out to inspect the scene, together with the fire brigade, but then
equally quickly left, without having tried to intervene at all.
The people in Izvor suspect that the fires were set by their
neighbours in the purely ethnic Albanian populated village of Vlasce,
according to amateur radio operators.
ETHNIC ALBANIAN TERRORISTS SHOOT AT SERB CONVOY
PASJANE, August 8 (Tanjug) Ethnic Albanian terrorists fired
shots
at Serbs travelling late on Monday in a convoy of cars from the
southSerbian town of Presevo to the village of Pasjane, near the town of
Gnjilane, situated in the east of the KFORadministered Serbian province
of
Kosovo and Metohija.
Serb Ljubisa Cuparevic from the village of Donje Budrige
sustained
injuries in the incident that occurred near the permanent checkpoint of
the
KFOR U.S. contingent, local radio operators said.

SAUDI AID WORKERS BULLDOZE BALKAN MONUMENTS

The Saudi bulldozing of some of the most historically
valuable architectural monuments in the western Kosova market
town of Djakovica is merely the latest in a series of
iconoclastic activities in the Balkans undertaken in the name
of reconstruction assistance by Arab aid organizations. War-
damaged historic buildings are not repaired, but rather
demolished to make way for what the Arab donors consider to
be more proper Islamic structures.
The destruction is a further blow to Kosova's
architectural heritage, following the destruction by Serbian
forces and civilians in 1998 and 1999 of over 200 mosques and
other Islamic structures--about one-third of the total number
in the province.
Harvard University Fine Arts librarian Andras
Riedlmayer, the co-author of a survey of Kosova's war-damaged
architectural sites, is outraged by the Saudi demolition
program.
"Unfortunately, a Saudi aid agency got permits from the
local reconstruction agency and from the local institute for
the preservation of monuments to work on the restoration, so
to speak, of the Hadum mosque complex in the center of the
historic district."
Riedlmayer says the Saudis began on 24 July by trying to
knock down all the Ottoman-era gravestones in the cemetery of
the Hadum mosque.
"The Saudis were interested in removing them because
they consider gravestones to be idolatrous. They are
followers of Wahhabism, which is an extremist interpretation
of Islam at odds with the practice of most of the Muslim
world."
The Wahhabis are a purist movement founded in the 18th
century by Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab (c. 1703-1791). He
converted the Saud tribe, which now rules Saudi Arabia. The
Wahhabis are the largest and most powerful Muslim sect in
Saudi Arabia.
Riedlmayer says the Saudis are obsessed with having all
ancient tombstones, mausoleums, and Sufi shrines located near
mosques eliminated, since--unlike most Muslims in the world
today--the Wahhabis believe these to be "un-Islamic" and
idolatrous. He said: "the Wahhabis, with their wealth and
fanaticism, are a menace to heritage, in some ways more
dangerous than the [Serb paramilitary] Chetniks, since about
the latter, at least, no one harbors any illusions regarding
their uncharitable intentions."
The Saudi Joint Relief Committee for the People of
Kosovo and Chechnya, established by royal decree, has built
mosques, schools, clinics, and shelters for displaced
persons. It has also supplied the province with several
hundred tons of medicine, food, blankets, tents, and clothing
during the last 13 months.
But spreading the message of Wahhabi Islam appears to be
another aim of the committee. The new mosques are white, boxy
structures devoid of detail--a far cry from the centuries-old
Ottoman-style mosques that characterize the urban and village
landscape in much of the Balkans.
Riedlmayer says NATO-led KFOR peacekeepers declined to
intervene in Djakovica after the Saudis showed their
authorized papers.
"Eventually the Department of Culture in UNMIK (the UN
administration) was notified. They spoke with the Saudis on
[27 July] and tried to get them to desist. However, on [28
July], the Saudis sent in a bulldozer [and] knocked down the
buildings around the Hadum mosque, including the library
built in 1733 and ancient gravestones in the graveyard."
The Hadum mosque itself, which survived last year's
fighting largely intact--despite fire damage to its porch and
grenade damage to its minaret--remains endangered. If the
past is prologue, the frescoes could soon be whitewashed by
Wahhabi purists.
Attempts by RFE/RL to contact the UNMIK-Joint Interim
Administration's Department of Culture, the Kosovo Institute
for the Protection of Monuments, or the Saudi Joint Relief
Committee in Kosovo were unsuccessful.
However, Peruvian Alvaro Higueras, from the UNMIK
Culture Department, confirmed in a telephone call to
Riedlmayer on 3 August that the Saudis had razed the library
and Koran school.
Higueras said the Saudis planned to build a reinforced
concrete Islamic center on the cleared site. But the UNMIK
official says the Saudis applied for permission for a
restoration project, not for new construction. Higueras says
an order has now been issued to stop construction
indefinitely. He says the Saudis will have to "undo the
damage" and restore the Ottoman-era buildings using
traditional materials and techniques.
Riedlmayer has documented cases in which the Saudi and
other Arab aid agencies have destroyed other historic Islamic
buildings elsewhere in Kosova, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and
Bulgaria.
Last October, while Riedlmayer was in Kosova conducting
a survey of war-damaged architectural heritage, he witnessed
the destruction of Muslim cemeteries in Vushtrri. He says an
Islamic aid agency from the United Arab Emirates had
pressured local Albanian residents to sledgehammer the graves
of their ancestors, completely clearing two historic
graveyards next to the Gazi Ali Beg and Karamanli mosques of
more than 100 gravestones dating back to the 15th century.
Only the grave marker of Gazi Ali Beg himself remained, as
the locals refused to allow that one to be smashed.
Riedlmayer says the UAE aid agency promised to rebuild
the damaged mosques "twice as big and twice as Islamic," but
only if the gravestones were removed. He says the agency, the
largest aid organization in the town, also made an implicit
threat to withhold humanitarian aid if the donors' request
was ignored.
Riedlmayer notes that during and immediately after the
war in Bosnia (1992-95), a Saudi aid agency took charge of
the restoration of the Gazi Husrev Beg mosque (Begova
dzamija) as well as other historic mosques in Sarajevo and in
many other towns and villages.
At the Beg mosque, the Saudis ordered the Ottoman tile
work and painted wall decorations stripped off and discarded
and had the whole building redone, as Riedlmayer puts it "in
gleaming hospital white, even the minaret slathered in white
plaster." He says that in scores of villages, the Saudis had
war-damaged but restorable historic Ottoman-style Bosnian
mosques demolished and redone Saudi-style. All of the
colorful Balkan-Muslim interior decor was eliminated, and
separate entrances were added to segregate women.
To drive home the significance of the Saudi destruction
in the Balkans, Riedlmayer says, "Imagine, if you will, some
terrible catastrophe affecting the historic churches of Rome
and Tuscany, and then having" modern-day U.S. Christian sects
coming in and insisting that they be redone in "proper
Christian style."

Members of the Yugoslav Committee
Liaising with the U.N. mission, Jovica
Jovanovic and Radovan Redzic, were
harassed by Belgian KFOR troops at
a KFOR checkpoint in Donje Jerinje.
According to Jovanovic, the KFOR
troops stopped the Yugoslavs' car,
demanded personal identification papers from the two passengers, and
then proceeded to search the vehicle, including the two Yugoslav
diplomats' personal belongings.
The Belgians then insisted on taking photos of the Yugoslavs, dragged
Redzic to a barrack a few meters away, kicked him, put him up against
the wall and forcefully took his photo.

Serbian soldiers made a probing incursion into Kosovo two weeks ago in
the worst breach yet of the agreement that ended Nato's bombing campaign
last year, the US forces newspaper, Stars and Stripes, said yesterday.
US forces scrambled Apache helicopters to confront the group of armed
and uniformed Serbs in two all-terrain vehicles who retreated across the
dividing line between Kosovo and the rest of Serbia, the paper said.
The incident took place on July 28 in the mountains of eastern Kosovo,
near Serbia's Presevo valley, where there have been clashes between
Serbian police and a group of ethnic Albanians seeking independence from
Belgrade.
Shortly after the alleged incursion, peacekeepers said they had stepped
up security in the Presevo area to try to stop the ethnic Albanian UCPMB
group from operating. US forces had reported seeing mortar fire and
other military activity.
Officials of the US military contingent that patrols the area refused to
respond to questions about the incident and Nato spokesman Major Craig
Snow in Pristina said he could not confirm that Serbian forces had
crossed into Kosovo. "We've not been commenting on specific incidents,"
Maj Snow said.
Serb army and police units pulled out of Kosovo in July last year as
part of an agreement that ended Nato's 78-day bombing campaign of
Serb-dominated Yugoslavia.
The Serb incursion, if confirmed, would be regarded by Nato as a test of
its commitment to control the movement of UCPMB guerrillas who operate
out of Kosovo and have been trying the patience of the Serb military in
Presevo.
