Kosovo, Albania "connect divided nation"
PRISTINA - At midday in Sunday, Albanian PM Sali Berisha and his Kosovo Albanian government counterpart Hashim Thaci opened a highway tunnel.
The 5.6-kilometer long tunnel is a part of the Durres-Kukes-Pristina highway. The pair, along with other officials from Tirana and Pristina, "symbolically met in the middle of the tunnel", reports said.
Albanian language media described this as a "historic meeting that signifies the connecting of a divided nation".
"Today, one of the Albanians' most beautiful dreams has become reality. This is a tunnel of the unification of the nation. Today we decided that there are no obstacles, that there is nothing that can divide us, not only spiritually, but also physically," Thaci was quoted as saying.
He also referred to the highway as the "Albanians' masterpiece", that will serve the well-being of the "entire region".
"We have today inaugurated a tunnel that connects not only Albanians among themselves, but Albanians with other nations of the region. Albania's seaside will serve not only to Albanians but the whole region," said Berisha.
Thaci continued to dub the road to be one of "hope and integration".
"This is a highway of hope, trust, peace, stability integrations in the whole region. It's a road of a new century," he stated, and added that the day was "great for Albanians no matter where they live".
"Tirana and Priština are closer to each other than ever before and it will remain that way. The main element of this spiritual, moral and physical closeness is Kosovo's independence," Thaci was quoted.
He was also heard saying that the road will give Kosovo "sea access" and that he expects it will "significantly influence the economic development of Albania and Kosovo", but also, "of the entire region".
The works on the highway will cost Albania one billion euros, while the job was awarded to U.S. company Bechtel-Enka.
The road is set to open in late June, and is expected to cut travel time to about three hours for those going from Priština to Tirana via Durres.

Une autoroute va bientôt relier l’Albanie au Kosovo. Le gouvernement Berisha est décidé à terminer cet immense chantier avant les élections parlementaires du 28 juin, malgré les scandales de corruption. Le 31 mai, le tunnel Rreshen-Kalimash a été inauguré par les Premiers ministres d’Albanie et du Kosovo, mais le reste du chantier est loin d’être achevé. Sali Berisha s’est pourtant engagé à inaugurer coûte que coûte l’autoroute le 25 juin, au risque de sacrifier les règles de sécurité ?

L’autoroute Pristina-Tirana pourra-t-elle bien être inaugurée le 25 juin, trois jours avant les élections parlementaires albanaises ? Le gouvernement de Tirana multiplie les pressions sur les entreprises responsables du chantier, au point que certains craignent que trop de hâte n’amène à négliger les règles de sécurité. De toute manière, même si le segment Rreshën/Kalimash peut être inauguré à temps, le reste du chantier ne sera pas achevé avant 2012...

Autoroute Albanie - Kosovo : inauguration du « tunnel de l’union » de la nation albanaise
A quelques semaines des élections législatives du 28 juin prochain, Sali Berisha le Premier ministre albanais, a inauguré en grande pompe le tunnel de Kalimash, le dernier tronçon de l’autoroute qui doit relier à terme Tirana à Pristina. Accompagné d’Hashim Thaçi, le Premier ministre du Kosovo, il a évoqué les bénéfices économiques que tirerons de ce nouvel axe les populations des deux pays, mais surtout le « rêve panalbanais » qu’il permettra enfin de réaliser.

« S’il le faut, nous vendrons les bijoux de nos femmes pour finir cette autoroute », a déclaré le premier ministre albanais Sali Berisha. Le devis de la liaison Tirana-Pristina dépasse déjà le milliard d’euros. Ce projet pharaonique vise à développer les relations économiques entre Albanie et Kosovo, mais ne s’agit-il pas aussi d’un pas vers la « Grande Albanie » ? Pour l’immédiat, une certitude : ses enjeux financiers sont colossaux, notamment pour la société Bechtel, qui réaliserait une marge bénéficiaire de 44 %.
Autoroute Kosovo-Albanie : effondrement dans le tunnel entre Rreshen et Kalimash
La construction du tunnel qui relie Rreshen à Kalimash, en Albanie, ne doit s’arrêter à aucun prix. Pas même en raison des effondrements qui menacent quotidiennement les ouvriers et la progression du chantier. Dernière pièce de l’autoroute qui doit à terme relier la côte albanaise au Kosovo, le tunnel de Rreshen-Kalimash mesurera, une fois terminé, 5,5 kilomètres. Les travaux sont supposés s’achever en juin, avant les élections législatives...

Albanie : l’aéroport fantôme de Kukës
Qui connaît l’aéroport de Kukës ? Terminé en 2007 et « offert » par les Émirats arabes unis à l’Albanie, il est depuis désespérément vide. De fait, si cet aéroport a vocation à ouvrir un débouché commercial à l’est du Kosovo, la crise économique semble avoir « plombé » les perspectives de développement. Autre problème, la compagnie Tirana Airport Partners, qui gère l’aéroport de Tirana-Rinas, jouit pour 20 ans d’une exclusivité sur les activités aéroportuaires en Albanie.

Entre le Kosovo et l’Albanie, « l’autoroute de la corruption » ?
Le « chantier du siècle » avance vite dans les montagnes du nord de l’Albanie. Une autoroute doit relier le port de Durrës à la ville de Kukës et au poste frontalier de Murinë, avec le Kosovo. Cependant, de nombreux scandales accompagnent les travaux : irrégularités dans la procédure d’appel d’offres, qui a donné l’avantage à l’entreprise américaine Bechtel, explosion des coûts. Principale personnalité mise en cause : l’ancien ministre des Transports Lulzim Basha, un proche de Sali Berisha, aujourd’hui ministre des Affaires étrangères. Le Parquet vient d’ouvrir une enquête contre lui.

Kosovo : demain, la route de la « Grande Albanie » ?
Une route moderne doit relier le Kosovo au port de Durrës, sur la côte albanaise, via les montagnes du nord de l’Albanie. Plaidoyer en faveur de ce projet, dont les retombées économiques et touristiques seront majeures, mais qui permettrait aussi au Kosovo de ne plus dépendre de la Serbie. Pour le journaliste Blendi Fevziu, cette route « pan-albanaise » marquera l’« unification » tant attendue de la nation albanaise...

Sali Berisha veut une autoroute pour relier Albanie et Kosovo
Le gouvernement albanais a décidé d’ouvrir le chantier de l’autoroute Durrës-Kukës, 170 kilomètres à travers la montagne, depuis la côte albanaise jusqu’aux frontières du Kosovo. Le FMI et la Banque mondiale sont sceptiques et ne veulent pas financer cette « autoroute pan-albanaise », dont l’intérêt est plus idéologique qu’économique. Berisha n’en a cure et lance les travaux. L’Albanie « doit compter sur ses propres forces ». Comme au bon vieux temps d’Enver Hoxha.
