Ils sont plusieurs milliers à avoir demandé l’asile en Belgique. Ils sont Roms, traités de « Tziganes » ou d’autres noms qu’ils perçoivent comme insultants. Ils sont venus du Kosovo, ayant fui cette province depuis qu’elle est gérée par l’ONU et l’OTAN. Malgré les terribles persécutions subies sur leur terre natale, aucun n'a, à ce jour, obtenu le statut de réfugié.
