Russian general calls Milosevic's death political assassination
MOSCOW - Gen. Leonid Ivashov who acted as a
witness for the defense in the trail of the former
Yugoslav president regards the death of Slobodan
Milosevic as a political assassination.
"I regard it as a contract political killing because
the court proved incapable of proving his guilt and
acquitting Slobodan Milosevic would amount to
denouncing NATO for the aggression against
Yugoslavia," Ivashov, vice president of the Russian
Academy for Geopolitical Problems, told Interfax on
Saturday.
In the recent past Ivashov headed the Defense
Ministry international cooperation department.
"It is a murder. The doctors whom Slobodan Milosevic
trusted were not allowed to see him. Besides, he was
not allowed to travel to Russia for treatment even
though he asked. He was deliberately placed in a
situation that caused his death," Ivashov said.

Unofficial translation from Russian
Mikhail Kamynin, the Spokesman of Russia's Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, Answers a Media Question Regarding Decision of International
Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ITFY) Concerning Slobodan
Milosevic's Request
258-25-02-2006
The Russian side was a few days ago officially informed that the Trial
Chamber of ITFY had rejected former President of Yugoslavia Slobodan
Milosevic's request for provisional release from ITFY's jurisdiction
to travel to Moscow for medical treatment at the Bakulev Scientific
Center of Cardiovascular Surgery.
Guided by considerations of humanity, the Russian Federation had as
early as January 17 sent ITFY the necessary guarantees envisaged by
the Tribunal's Rules of Procedure and Proof, including, in particular,
guarantees of Milosevic's personal security, his timely return to The
Hague and the observance of all the conditions that might be laid down
by ITFY regarding the ex-Yugoslav president's delivery to Russia and
stay in our country. Milosevic also assumed necessary personal
commitments.
Yet the Trial Chamber notes in its decision that the legal advisers of
Milosevic failed to convince the judges that the treatment of the
ex-Yugoslav president cannot be provided in the Netherlands. The ITFY
judges also stressed that Milosevic is in the concluding stage of a
very long trial, is charged with committing many serious crimes and,
if found guilty, may be sentenced to life imprisonment. In these
conditions, says the decision, the Trial Chamber is not convinced that
that the accused, if released, would return for the continuation of
the trial.
The Russian side takes note of the ITFY's decision. At the same time,
that decision cannot but evoke regret in Moscow, especially as the
Tribunal left the necessary guarantees given by the Russian Federation
without attention.

[Presenter] The life of the former president of Yugoslavia, Slobodan
Milosevic, is in jeopardy, his brother Borislav Milosevic, a former
Yugoslav ambassador to Moscow, believes. He expressed indignation over
today's decision by the Hague Tribunal to refuse his brother going to
Russia for medical treatment. He said this in an interview with our
radio station.
[Borislav Milosevic] I do not know whether or not they will poison him
but I do not rule this out altogether. I do not rule out that he might
be even secretly liquidated. As far as his medical treatment is
concerned, their moves do not give any grounds to believe that he is
being treated in a fair and humane way. Their decision is negative.
Incidentally, as I see the reasons behind the decision, I believe that
it is not just inhumane, it simply violates human rights. At issue is
an ailing man, a man aged 65. Despite the immaculate validity of the
various components of this appeal, of this request, they turned it down.
[Presenter] I would like to remind you that Milosevic has more than
once complained about the bad state of his health and this is why the
court hearings, which have been in progress for several years now,
have been interrupted several times. In January, Milosevic's defence
passed documents to the International Tribunal on the basis of which
the tribunal was expected to take the decision to temporarily release
the former president of Yugoslavia.

[Presenter] The Hague [International Criminal] Tribunal has ruled that
Slobodan Milosevic cannot be temporarily released for a course of
medical treatment in Moscow. The judges turned down the application
despite the fact that Russia had guaranteed the observance of all the
conditions of release that might be set by the tribunal. [Passage omitted]
[Presenter] Here is how Slobodan's brother, Borislav Milosevic, who
was the Yugoslav ambassador to Russia from 1998 to 2001, commented on
the news for Mayak.
[Borislav Milosevic] I believe it inhumane to use every means to
prevent a sick man in his 65th year from getting medical treatment. It
is a violation of his rights - and a crude one at that. The arguments
used to justify the decision - that the prosecution fears he will not
return from Russia and that he can get treatment elsewhere, including
Holland - are also quite unacceptable. They are even hurtful to Russia
because they mean that Russian guarantees are seen as unreliable. And
the second and most important thing is that Slobodan Milosevic does
not trust the doctors there, while he does trust Russian doctors.

Milosevic seeks subpoena for Clinton to testify
THE HAGUE - Lawyers representing Slobodan Milosevic
have asked the U.N. war crimes tribunal to issue a
subpoena to force former U.S. President Bill Clinton
to testify at his trial, documents showed on Tuesday.
"In his position as former president of the United
States, Mr Clinton had a continuous role and unique
knowledge of events relevant to the indictment," the
lawyers said in a written request filed last week but
only made public on Tuesday.
Lawyers Steven Kay and Gillian Higgins said his
evidence was needed to make sure the trial was
"informed and fair".
They said Milosevic had written a personal letter to
Clinton asking him to testify but had not received a
response.
They added the U.S. embassy in The Hague had written
to them last year explaining the opposition of the
U.S. government to the request.
Milosevic, who has argued that he was a peacemaker in
the 1999 Kosovo conflict and that the West committed
war crimes, has also asked the court to subpoena
retired U.S. general Wesley Clark to appear as a
witness in his defense.
Clark directed NATO's bombing of Kosovo in an 11-week
campaign led by Clinton and British Prime Minister
Tony Blair....
Judges decided last year not to call Blair and Gerhard
Schroeder, German Chancellor at the time of the
bombing, as witnesses.

Clinton may be called on to testify
-Clinton would be questioned regarding the claims that
the US directly and indirectly helped the Croatian
military in attacks against the Serbs and offered
military and material help to the Bosnia-Herzegovina
Government in between 1991 and 1995.
-The defence also states that Clinton can potentially
be questioned regarding "the help which the US offered
to the Kosovo Liberation Army in the attacks on
security forces in Kosovo."
THE HAGUE - Slobodan Milosevic's assigned defence
counsel Steven Kay has asked the Hague Tribunal to
call on former US president Bill Clinton to appear as
a witness in Milosevic's defence case.
Kay said that the defence would like to question
Clinton regarding some of things he wrote in his book
"My Life," particularly the parts that deal with the
US role in the Yugoslav conflict, and to give a
personal point-of-view regarding Milosevic and Serbia,
which can only be described as "unfriendly."
Kay continued, adding that the consequences of this
relationship were an unjustly negative portrayal of
Serbia and Yugoslavia as the main perpetrators of
crimes in the regional conflicts.
The former American president communicated with
Milosevic directly and through advisors, which makes
him very capable of discussing these topics, Kay said.
According to Milosevic's intentions, Clinton would be
questioned regarding the claims that the US directly
and indirectly helped the Croatian military in attacks
against the Serbs and offered military and material
help to the Bosnia-Herzegovina Government in between
1991 and 1995.
Clinton would also be questioned about "the
involvement of the US Government in enabling Islamic
countries, such as Iran, and organisations close to
the al-Qaeda to offer the Bosnian Government soldiers
and weapons," as well as Washington's involvement in
the NATO attacks on Bosnian Serbs.
The defence also states that Clinton can potentially
be questioned regarding "the help which the US offered
to the Kosovo Liberation Army in the attacks on
security forces in Kosovo."
If the Hague Tribunal grants Milosevic's demand to
question Bill Clinton, he would receive a court order
obligating him to testify.

"UN TRIBUNAL" AGAINST THE UN
On the occasion of today's decision of the Hague Tribunal Trial
Chamber not to allow the urgently needed medical treatment of
President Milosevic in Moscow, Vladimir Krsljanin, foreign relations
assistant of President Milosevic and secretary of the ICDSM and
Sloboda, made the following statement for the press:
"By this decision, the Hague Tribunal has shown clearer than ever
that it does not take care about law and human rights. President
Milosevic is denied his right to get medical treatment in the
institution of his choice in spite of the guarantees of one of the
most serious and most powerful countries in the world, a member of

This decision has criminal character and at the same time it further

that end."

URGENT FUNDRAISING APPEAL
******************************
President Milosevic has the truth and law on his side. In order to
use that advantage to achieve his freedom, we must fight this totally
discredited tribunal and its patrons through professionally conducted
actions.
The funds secured in Serbia are still enough only to cover the
expenses of the stay and work of President Milosevic's legal
associates at The Hague (one at the time).
After the unlawful attack of the German financial authorities on the
ICDSM fundraisning in Germany, that lead to freezing of the ICDSM
account in Germany, the simmilar attack took place recently in
Austria, where the account of the Yugoslav-Austrian Solidarity was
frozen. These unlawful acts, aiming to undermine and block the
President Milosevic's defence, will be fought back legally.

shakes the UN system. We expect this decision to be changed and call
upon all who care about justice and human rights to contribute to

***********************************************************
To carry on the normal defence work - 3000-5000 EUR per month is our
imminent need.
