BRUXELLES (Reuters) - Il capo delle politica estera dell'Unione europea
Javier Solana ha nominato il diplomatico tedesco Wolfgang Ischinger per
rappresentare il blocco nei negoziati sul futuro stato del Kosovo. Lo ha
riferito oggi il suo ufficio.
La portavoce di Solana Cristina Gallach ha detto che Ishinger,
ambasciatore tedesco nel Regno Unito ed esperto dei Balcani,
rappresenterà l'Ue negli sforzi per sbloccare le trattative tra la
Serbia e l'etnia albanese del Kosovo durante i negoziati, che ci si
aspetta dureranno almeno quattro mesi.
Tentativi di arrivare ad una risoluzione Onu sullo status Kosovo hanno
subito uno stallo questo mese, dopo la resistenza della Russia al
consiglio di sicurezza, accrescendo la prospettiva che la regione
dichiari la propria indipendenza senza il mandato Onu.
Gli stati Ue hanno invitato Belgrado e Pristina a raggiungere un
compromesso.

German gets key role in Kosovo talks
BERLIN - The longtime German ambassador to the United
States will be the European Union's envoy in talks to
resolve the Kosovo conflict.
Wolfgang Ischinger, who from 2001 until 2006 was
Germany's man in Washington, will represent the EU as
part of the so-called Troika in its difficult talks
with Serbia and Kosovo over the province's possible
independence.
Besides the EU, the Troika also includes the United
States and Russia.
Ischinger, who currently serves as German ambassador
to Britain, is "a great connoisseur of the region,"
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said
after Brussels officially announced the nomination...
