SKOPJE (Eigener Bericht) - Die deutsche Mediengruppe WAZ hat den
ehemaligen Außenminister Mazedoniens für geeignet befunden, in die
höheren Dienste der WAZ-Mazedonien zu treten. Der neue Angestellte (Dr.
Srdjan Kerim), der auch als Botschafter Mazedoniens in Deutschland und
als UNO-Repräsentant Mazedoniens tätig war, erhielt von der Essener
Konzernleitung einen Arbeitsplatz in Skopje zugewiesen. Dort wird er
die Aufträge der deutschen Mediengruppe, die seit dem Ende Jugoslawiens
in Südosteuropa expandiert, als ,,Sonderbeauftragter" erfüllen. Dies
lässt der Vorstand der WAZ-Mediengruppe in einer Pressemitteilung
verlauten.
Herr Dr. Kerim hatte sich bereits in mehreren Funktionen verdient
gemacht, bevor er von der WAZ-Mediengruppe befördert wurde. So durfte
er als ,,Sonderberater" im EU-Stabilitätspakt für den Balkan arbeiten,
wo er dessen damaligem Leiter, dem Deutschen Bodo Hombach unterstand.
Da Hombach den Stabilitätspakt in Essen fortsetzte und dort in privater
Funktion WAZ-Direktor wurde, lag es nahe, auch Kerim in die WAZ
einzubringen. Seit Juli 2003 bewährte sich der ehemalige mazedonische
Außenminister in dem WAZ-Subunternehmen ,,Media-Print" (Skopje) und
wies Angriffe wegen der Monopolstellung des deutschen Medienkonzerns in
Mazedonien ab. Die treue Haltung des Mazedoniers, der europäischen
Idealen verpflichtet ist, wurde jetzt durch seine deutschen
Dienstherren besonders anerkannt.
Vergünstigung
Die gegen den Einfluss der WAZ-Gruppe gerichtete Polemik macht sich den
Umstand zu Nutze, dass das Essener Unternehmen etwa 90% des
mazedonischen Zeitungsmarktes betreut und mit den Titeln ,,Dnevnik",
,,Utrinski vesnik" sowie ,,Vest" zivilgesellschaftliche Maßstäbe setzt.
So ist die Mediengruppe WAZ ,,das erste europäische Medienunternehmen,
das sich den OSZE-Grundsätzen zur Wahrung der redaktionellen
Unabhängigkeit verpflichtet hat"1), teilt das WAZ-Direktorium mit.
Trotz dieser besonderen Vergünstigung, die den europaweiten
WAZ-Redaktionen gewährt wird, glauben einheimische WAZ-Konkurrenten,
das deutsche Unternehmen kritisieren zu müssen.
Ausrichtung
So sorgt sich der Mazedonier Ljupko Zikov um angebliche ,,Probleme"2),
die der WAZ-Aufkauf dem regionalen Pressemarkt bescheren könnte. Zikov
ist Herausgeber des Wochenmagazins ,,Kapital". Ähnlich äußert sich Aco
Kabramov, Chefredakteur des mazedonischen Fernsehsenders ,,A1".
Kabramov meint, die hegemoniale Stellung des WAZ-Konzerns beeinflusse
die Medienlandschaft ,,in negativer Weise (...). Wie unabhängig die
Politik der Herausgeber auch erscheinen mag - zu Professionalität und
Pluralismus tragen sie nicht gerade bei (...). Die drei Zeitungstitel
unterstehen ein und demselben Unternehmen und das wird schließlich zu
einer mehr oder weniger einheitlichen Ausrichtung führen." Ähnliche
Sorgen äußert Ana Petruseva vom IWP-Report, die das Pressegleichgewicht
nicht nur in Mazedonien, sondern ,,auch anderswo auf dem Balkan"
gefährdet sieht, sollte die Expansion der WAZ-Gruppe fortgesetzt
werden. ,,In Bulgarien und Kroatien kontrolliert diese Gruppe bereits
weite Teile des Medienmarktes", schreibt Frau Petruseva. Auch in
Serbien sei die WAZ-Gruppe im Begriff, eine Monopolstellung
einzunehmen, und hat 50% der führenden Tageszeitung ,,Politika"
aufgekauft.3)
Staatliche Organe
Wie der WAZ-Konzern mitteilt, ist es die Aufgabe des beförderten
ehemaligen Außenministers, die südosteuropäische Medienpolitik der
deutschen Zentrale zu verstetigen. Dabei werde es nötig werden, dass
Dr. Kerim ,,Verhandlungen mit den staatlichen Organen" des Balkans
führt ,,und die WAZ-Interessen" unter den Einheimischen konsequent
vertritt, heißt es in dem WAZ-Kommunique abschließend.4)

Sono rimasto fortemente sorpreso dalle reazioni, vostre e dei vostri
lettori, al servizio di RAI TRE sui mujaheddin in Bosnia (*). Mi chiedo
come mai un servizio discutibile sui Balcani sia oggetto, proprio
stavolta, di tante critiche e perplessita', diversamente da moltissimi
altri, ben piu' sconcertanti "pezzi da novanta" della disinformazione
mediatica sui Balcani.
Se infatti il servizio in questione si inserisce senz'altro "bene" nel
contesto di una campagna "contro il terrorismo islamista" che ha
assunto toni esasperati e le cui motivazioni vanno cercate altrove - ad
esempio nelle guerre per il petrolio, oppure in Palestina -, tuttavia
la presenza di volontari stranieri nelle file dell'Armija di
Izetbegovic e' stata una realta' innegabile, la cui denuncia resta
tuttora tardiva ed insufficiente, nonostante Ballaro'.
Di fatto, solo pochi anni fa nessuno si sarebbe azzardato a porre il
problema, poiche' i musulmani dovevano svolgere nello spettacolo
mediatico il ruolo delle uniche vittime, in Bosnia, e la presenza di Al
Qaida laggiu' era funzionale agli interessi strategici occidentali -
per rafforzare cioe' la parte musulmana, secessionista, contro i serbi
che non volevano staccarsi da Belgrado.
Oggi invece la presenza del fondamentalismo islamista e/o del
terrorismo in Bosnia viene considerata con preoccupazione persino da
Massimo D'Alema, presente a Ballaro'... Il quale pero' porta la
responsabilita' storica di avere guidato il nostro paese in una guerra
di aggressione in appoggio al secessionismo su base etno-razziale dei
terroristi dell'UCK, i quali hanno poi fatto scempio del patrimonio
culturale non-islamico in Kosovo (si guardi almeno alle chiese
devastate, se le minoranze scacciate e le persone massacrate non
commuovono altrettanto).
Oggi, evidentemente, del problema dell'Islam militante nei Balcani si
puo' finalmente parlare: ma sempre e soltanto al fine di imporre il
controllo militare-strategico della regione da parte occidentale.
Un vostro lettore lo scorso 8 gennaio vi chiedeva: "Pensate sia
possibile una vera convivenza tra serbi, croati e musulmani senza un
uomo come Josip Broz Tito?". Avete risposto: "Siamo convinti si possa
prescindere da Tito per aspirare alla convivenza pacifica tra comunità
... altrimenti sarebbe un problema."
Giusto. Mi chiedo pero' come sia possibile una vera convivenza tra
serbi, croati e musulmani a prescindere dalla Jugoslavia - cioe' dallo
Stato comune degli slavi del sud: i serbi, i croati, i musulmani, e gli
altri.
Personalmente ritengo che il fondamentalismo islamista sia stato
utilizzato dall'Occidente - insieme alle altre forme di revanscismo ed
identitarismo reazionario - per distruggere la Jugoslavia
multinazionale e sovrana. E' ancora vietato dire questo?

Riguardo alla reazione del governo bosniaco (suppongo
"bosgnacco") sull'ottima trasmissione "Ballarò":
E' da quel dì che segnalavamo la presenza dei mujahedini, sia in
Bosnia ed Erzegovina che nel Kosmet (Kosovo e Metohija). Identificati
anche nei filmati in nostro possesso.
Bravissimo il conduttore! Come sempre raffinato nelle domande, soltanto
che tanti fanno "orecchie da mercante", compreso qualcuno di
questa segreteria, alla quale chiedo di "illuminarmi": a che prò questa
scoperta "dell'acqua calda" ?
Ma, al ministro Frattini, gli sta bene la presenza su quei
territori dei mujahedini tagliagole e terroristi di ogni razza!?
Perché sembra aver giustificato così la presenza dei bravi soldatini,
anche italiani, a tenere la Bosnia-Erzegovina sotto protettorato?!
Ancora non hanno capito i cittadini della Bosnia ed Erzegovina, in
primis i bosgnacchi, già musulmano bosniaci, dove li stanno conducendo
i vari "capi tribù"...
"L' Osservatorio dei Balcani" non potrebbe "illuminare" il vasto
pubblico rispetto a di che stampo sia il Protettorato della Bosnia ed
Erzegovina, dove non possono decidere proprio nulla, nemmeno sulla
propria bandiera e tantomeno sul soldo. Infatti viene usata la
"konvertibilna marka" (il marco convertibile). Mentre i "capi tribù"
nostrani e vari intelettual- borghesi, che meritano tutto il disprezzo
jugoslavo, "tirano fuori" delle lingue inesistenti.

Premessa
Prima di scrivere le righe che seguono e di mandarle a "Slobodna
Dalmacija", ho telefonato a Predrag Matvejevic. Nei pochissimi istanti
di conversazione, ho voluto soffermarmi su due punti, quelli che
trovate sotto, benché nell’articolo - veramente demenziale - "si tirino
in ballo" pure le "foibe" e "la statistica comunista" riguardo l’esodo…
Sono riuscito a ribadirgli telefonicamente la mia opinione sulla "mezza
verità" riguardante Milosevic, ma quando ho toccato il tasto del
"demente nazionalismo serbo", il Matvejevic mi ha bruscamente

Clanak "Priznanje traze i sudbinske manjine", t.j. Razgovor o manjinama
s Predragom Matvejevicem hrvatskim knjizevnikom i profesorom u
"Slobodnoj" od 18.12.03., od Silvija Tomasevica, nije bas "smece", ali
je veoma dvosmislen. Nista cudno kad ga i pise jedan bivsi komunist i
ondasnji dopisnik "Tanjuga", koji je jos 1990 ovdje u Rimu, obnovio
partijsku ZNA SE KOJU knjizicu.
Inace o prevrtljivosti Predraga Matvejevica "hrvatskog knjizevnika i
profesora", (zar nije "tek" iz Hrvatske, ili tocnije iz BH?!), znano je
ovdje u Italiji.
U tom intervjuu, Matvejevic je, konacno, rekao i poluistinu u vezi
(glede, sto li..)Milosevica. Dakle ipak Milosevicu se ne moze pripisati
"gdje i jedan Srbin je Srbija". Koliko mi je poznato, Milosevic je
rekao da "i Srbi imaju pravo da imaju svoju drzavu", sto je po
jugoslavenskom Ustavu bilo i zakonito u smislu da konstitutivan narod
moze odluciti kako zeli zivjeti, (a ne republike, autonomne regije u
administrativnim granicama, i razne "vodje plemena").
Koje to "dementno drzanje srpskog nacionalizma prema Albancima na
Kosovu" (Kosmetu!) spominje P. Matvejevic?! Zar nije Matvejevic zivio u
Jugoslaviji (Ah da, znao je govoriti da je zivio u Hercegbosni!)?!.
Zaboravlja prof Matvejevic terorizam i ubistva koja su vrsili siptarski
teroristi secesionisti i za vrijeme Tita, a narocito nakon njegove
smrti.Da spomenem samo dva emblematicna: pokolj regruta raznih
nacionalnosti u kasarni u Paracinu i silovanje razbijenom pivskom fasom
nastavnika Martinovica na Kosovu i Metohiji. Osokolili su se ti
teroristi i posljednijh devedestih godina, pa je vlada iz Srbije
(pardon za siru publiku Milosevic) imala pravo da vodi borbu protiv
terorizma!....Sada jos brutalnije siptarski teroristi cine pod okriljem
UNMIK-a. Upotrebljavam izraz "Siptar" bez vrijedjanja. Pa zar nisu se
tako i htjeli definirati da bi se "razlikovali" od Siptara u Albaniji.
Citajte profesore Matvejevicu i druge, recimo Andre Malraux-a, sto je
govorio o Kosovu i Metohiji jos 1974., a ne "pravite se vaznim" samo
svojim imenom, prilagodjavajuci se, kao kameleon, prilikama.

Si sa invece della volubilità, adattabilita', qui in Italia, di Predrag
Matvejevic, "scrittore e professore croato" (ma non era soltanto "dalla
Croazia", o per meglio dire "dalla Bosnia ed Erzegovina"?!)
In questa intervista, il Matvejevic riguardo (o "rispetto", o "circa",
o altro... pare che a causa del "nuovo" vocabolario croato si possa
usare soltanto la piu' pura espressione "croata") Slobodan Milosevic,
ha detto, finalmente, una mezza verità! Benche' mezza, dunque: a
Milosevic non si può attribuire di aver detto che "dove c’è un serbo
deve essere Serbia".
Per quanto se ne sa (per quelli che vogliono ricordare), Milosevic
disse: "Anche i serbi hanno diritto di avere il proprio Stato", il che,
secondo l’allora Costituzione della RSF di Jugoslavia, significava che
avevano anche essi il diritto all'"autodeterminazione" (dunque non
nelle frontiere amministrative, tantomeno nelle Regioni autonome o in
base alla lottizzazione dei vari capi tribù! Ma in quanto "popolo
costitutivo", costituzionalmente).
Di quale "demente nazionalismo serbo contro gli albanesi del Kosovo" (e
Metohija!) parla il Matvejevic?! Non viveva forse il Matvejevic in
Jugoslavia, all'epoca? Ah certo, qui in Italia, tempo fa, raccontava di
aver piuttosto vissuto nella "Erzeg-bosnia"...
Dimentica il professor Matvejevic il terrorismo ed i crimini dei
secessionisti schipetari, anche mentre Tito era in vita, ma soprattutto
dopo la sua morte? Bisogna ricordare al Matvejevic soltanto due casi
emblematici: la strage durante il sonno delle reclute di tutte le
nazionalità nella caserma di Paracin, e lo stupro con una bottiglia di
birra rotta ai danni professor Martinovic in Kosovo-Metohija.
E questi terroristi tagliagole, che hanno assassinato preferibilmente
ragazzi e giovani uomini, si sono rinfrancati particolarmente alla fine
degli anni Novanta. Perciò il governo di Belgrado (pardon, per gli
ignoranti in materia: "Milosevic") aveva tutto il diritto di muoversi
militarmente contro queste bande. Ora le brutalità dei terroristi
secessionisti schipetari continuano "alla luce del sole", cioè
all’ombra dell’UNMIK.
Uso la denominazione "schipetari", perché così si voleva denominare
l’etnia schipetara che viveva nella Jugoslavia socialista, per
distinguersi dagli schipetari che vivevano in Albania ("albanesi").
Legga, esimio professore, anche quello che scrivono e hanno scritto
altri, sul Kosovo e Metohija... Per esempio André Malraux, ancora nel
1974. E non si faccia "maravea" (per dirla alla maniera triestina –

Prima di scrivere le righe che seguono e di mandarle a "Slobodna
Dalmacija", ho telefonato a Predrag Matvejevic. Nei pochissimi istanti
di conversazione, ho voluto soffermarmi su due punti, quelli che

in ballo" pure le "foibe" e "la statistica comunista" riguardo l’esodo…
Sono riuscito a ribadirgli telefonicamente la mia opinione sulla "mezza

Back to the Balkans?
Calls for Renewed Intervention

Is the Balkans back in Washington vogue? After a couple of seemingly
isolationist years (that were, of course, nothing of the sort) when
the limelight was on the Middle East, there's been a renewed push by
the forces of punditry to get the peninsula back on the Imperial
agenda. Underneath dire warnings and venomous denunciations lies a
hunger to revisit the scene of Clintonian triumphs as the Great Bush
Adventure keeps foundering in the sand. Triumph of the Radicals in
the recent Serbian parliamentary election

opportunity, but it is unlikely the renewed interest in the
south-eastern corner of Europe is unrelated to the politics of the
upcoming American election.
With Wesley Clark actually boasting about his "accomplishments" in
Kosovo and inching ahead in polls, raising the Balkans issues could
be a way to support his candidacy. If he were ever elected, Heaven
forbid, chances are he would resurrect the policies of intervention
in all their cruise-missile glory. On the other hand, if all the
caterwauling manages to sway the Bush regime to get Clintonesque on
the peninsula, the shills would still be happy. They care little as
to who holds the reigns of power, long as he leads in their desired
direction. Right now, it seems that direction is back to the Balkans.
The Two Rants: Abramowitz…
According to an op-ed by ICG's godfather Morton Abramowitz, which
appeared

in the Washington Post on Christmas Day (as celebrated in Serbia),
America's alleged inactivity in the Balkans threatens to undo all
the "successes" of the previous regime, and urgent action is needed.
Apparently, even though "much effort and treasure have been spent on
trying to help produce decent, functioning states," the "stench of
Slobodan Milosevic's rule still pervades Serbia" enough that a
"rabid nationalist party led by an indicted war criminal" threatens
to ruin everything the noble Americans and their European allies
have wrought over the past decade.
Abramowitz also rants against the Serbia-Montenegro union and bemoans
the fact that Kosovo was not given independence immediately after
its forced detachment from Serbia. He blames those on American and
European policy-makers, additionally making an absurd accusation
that western governments "largely avoided putting conditions on
their aid and coddled the democratic forces."
Say again? Granted, Abramowitz's pet regime in Podgorica may have
been a recipient of unrestricted US largesse, but Serbia, Croatia and
even Bosnia have known nothing but blackmail and extortion for years.
Even Zoran Djindjic had complained bitterly about not receiving the
promised 30 pieces [http://www.antiwar.com/malic/m100401.html%5d of
silver.
If it seems Abramowitz has an axe to grind, that's because he does.
In addition to being one of the US-sponsored advisors to the KLA
[http://www.hri.org/news/misc/events/1999/99-03-10_1.even.html%5d
delegation in Rambouillet, he is also the founder of the
International Crisis Group [http://www.antiwar.com/malic/m050301.html%5d,
which advocates a re-centralized Bosnia

an Albanian Kosovo [http://crisisweb.org/home/index.cfm?id=1640&l=1]
and a de-Serbified Montenegro.

A near-identical call could be heard six days later, on the pages of
The New York Times/International Herald Tribune, where Laura Silber
[http://www.iht.com/articles/124659.html%5d, chief political advisor
to George Soros' Open Society Institute, was adamant: "America must
act." Not only is Serbia in a "backslide," Kosovo is still not
independent and Bosnia is not yet fully centralized. According to
Silber, this is an inexcusable disaster, and must be remedied
forthwith.
Not surprisingly, Silber's arguments echo Soros's own

incoherent. Just as an example, she criticizes the Dayton
Constitution as creating a Bosnia "hamstrung by layers of
overlapping and contradictory constitutions, laws and administrations,"
but supports a proposal

"reducing" the current thirteen governments to twelve!
Such an argument against the present arrangement's cost and efficiency
does not hold water, for one simple reason. If efficiency were truly
an issue, common sense would dictate that centralization should
begin from the eleven governments of the Muslim-Croat Federation.
But this is somehow never entertained seriously, and any
consolidation of the Federation into two ethnic units is seen as
"partition" instead. The real goal is to abolish the Serb Republic,
which compared to the Federation runs remarkably smoothly, by dividing
it into cantons or provinces – in effect, creating more
inefficiency, only now easier to control from Sarajevo or Washington.
None of this should come as a surprise. Silber's claim to expertise
stems from co-authoring "Yugoslavia: Death of a Nation,"

antiwarbookstore/] a hateful little pamphlet

Balkans ills on Slobodan Milosevic.
The Great Hunt
Meanwhile, in Bosnia itself, NATO's occupation forces launched
another futile hunt

wartime president of the Serb Republic wanted by the Hague
Inquisition on charges of "genocide." In cruel winter conditions,
they raided the town of Pale

ransacked private homes, churches and hospitals, held people hostage
and eventually arrested one former police officer on vague suspicions.
Needless to say, they failed

but declared yet another "success."
Armed raids by occupying forces can never be civil, but NATO seems
to enjoy poking the Bosnian Serbs in the eye every chance it gets.
In addition to Americans and Britons, this weekend's raid was conducted
by German, Bulgarian and Italian troops – just like in the good old

ancestors knew how to organize a proper hunt back then

FAL_500.htm], complete with paratroopers and armored columns. Of
course, they had failed just as badly…
Besides the desire to validate its Balkans interventions by
capturing and putting on trial one of the men it has designated a
villain, there are signs the Empire may also be seeing to "bag"

Karadzic for the sake of appeasing the world Muslim opinion. However
hard they may try, the endeavor is a waste of breath. It seems the

the West is already well-established, and there is no room in it for
acknowledging American intervention. Indeed, it is often denied
entirely.
Nonetheless, voices claiming that Bosnia is an example of the US

still raised from time to time, and Washington's commitment to the
Muslim vision of Bosnia remains constant. Such ongoing support of
causes connected to the jihad

seems to stem from belief that militant displays of Islam could be
harnessed for Imperial purposes – a notion as dangerous as it is
misguided. One thing is clear, at least: Bosnia and Kosovo are proof

Not Done Yet
There are few reasons for the Bush regime to listen to exhortations
by Abramowitz and Silber. For whatever reason, the Balkans has not
been the preferred foreign policy battlefield of the current US
government. Trying to make it into one now would offer too many
potential pitfalls, and few discernible benefits, what with the
former Yugoslavia being treacherous political grounds on the best of
days. Also, it would look too much like a retreat from Babylon, and
play neatly into the hands of Candidate Clark

possible, though.
Whatever the White House decides, one thing is a given: the Empire
isn't done with the Balkans.

in the Washington Post on Christmas Day (as celebrated in Serbia),
America's alleged inactivity in the Balkans threatens to undo all
the "successes" of the previous regime, and urgent action is needed.
Apparently, even though "much effort and treasure have been spent on
trying to help produce decent, functioning states," the "stench of
Slobodan Milosevic's rule still pervades Serbia" enough that a
"rabid nationalist party led by an indicted war criminal" threatens
to ruin everything the noble Americans and their European allies
have wrought over the past decade.
Abramowitz also rants against the Serbia-Montenegro union and bemoans
the fact that Kosovo was not given independence immediately after
its forced detachment from Serbia. He blames those on American and
European policy-makers, additionally making an absurd accusation
that western governments "largely avoided putting conditions on
their aid and coddled the democratic forces."
Say again? Granted, Abramowitz's pet regime in Podgorica may have
been a recipient of unrestricted US largesse, but Serbia, Croatia and
even Bosnia have known nothing but blackmail and extortion for years.
Even Zoran Djindjic had complained bitterly about not receiving the
promised 30 pieces [http://www.antiwar.com/malic/m100401.html%5d of
silver.
If it seems Abramowitz has an axe to grind, that's because he does.
In addition to being one of the US-sponsored advisors to the KLA

delegation in Rambouillet, he is also the founder of the
International Crisis Group [http://www.antiwar.com/malic/m050301.html%5d,
which advocates a re-centralized Bosnia

an Albanian Kosovo [http://crisisweb.org/home/index.cfm?id=1640&l=1]
and a de-Serbified Montenegro.

…And Silber
A near-identical call could be heard six days later, on the pages of
The New York Times/International Herald Tribune, where Laura Silber
[http://www.iht.com/articles/124659.html%5d, chief political advisor
to George Soros' Open Society Institute, was adamant: "America must
act." Not only is Serbia in a "backslide," Kosovo is still not
independent and Bosnia is not yet fully centralized. According to
Silber, this is an inexcusable disaster, and must be remedied
forthwith.
Not surprisingly, Silber's arguments echo Soros's own

incoherent. Just as an example, she criticizes the Dayton
Constitution as creating a Bosnia "hamstrung by layers of
overlapping and contradictory constitutions, laws and administrations,"
but supports a proposal

"reducing" the current thirteen governments to twelve!
Such an argument against the present arrangement's cost and efficiency
does not hold water, for one simple reason. If efficiency were truly
an issue, common sense would dictate that centralization should
begin from the eleven governments of the Muslim-Croat Federation.
But this is somehow never entertained seriously, and any
consolidation of the Federation into two ethnic units is seen as
"partition" instead. The real goal is to abolish the Serb Republic,
which compared to the Federation runs remarkably smoothly, by dividing
it into cantons or provinces – in effect, creating more
inefficiency, only now easier to control from Sarajevo or Washington.
None of this should come as a surprise. Silber's claim to expertise
stems from co-authoring "Yugoslavia: Death of a Nation,"

antiwarbookstore/] a hateful little pamphlet

Balkans ills on Slobodan Milosevic.
The Great Hunt
Meanwhile, in Bosnia itself, NATO's occupation forces launched
another futile hunt

wartime president of the Serb Republic wanted by the Hague
Inquisition on charges of "genocide." In cruel winter conditions,
they raided the town of Pale

ransacked private homes, churches and hospitals, held people hostage
and eventually arrested one former police officer on vague suspicions.
Needless to say, they failed

but declared yet another "success."
Armed raids by occupying forces can never be civil, but NATO seems
to enjoy poking the Bosnian Serbs in the eye every chance it gets.
In addition to Americans and Britons, this weekend's raid was conducted
by German, Bulgarian and Italian troops – just like in the good old

ancestors knew how to organize a proper hunt back then

FAL_500.htm], complete with paratroopers and armored columns. Of
course, they had failed just as badly…
Besides the desire to validate its Balkans interventions by
capturing and putting on trial one of the men it has designated a
villain, there are signs the Empire may also be seeing to "bag"

Karadzic for the sake of appeasing the world Muslim opinion. However
hard they may try, the endeavor is a waste of breath. It seems the
prevalent Muslim opinion

the West is already well-established, and there is no room in it for
acknowledging American intervention. Indeed, it is often denied
entirely.
Nonetheless, voices claiming that Bosnia is an example of the US

still raised from time to time, and Washington's commitment to the
Muslim vision of Bosnia remains constant. Such ongoing support of
causes connected to the jihad

seems to stem from belief that militant displays of Islam could be
harnessed for Imperial purposes – a notion as dangerous as it is
misguided. One thing is clear, at least: Bosnia and Kosovo are proof

"crusade."
Not Done Yet
There are few reasons for the Bush regime to listen to exhortations
by Abramowitz and Silber. For whatever reason, the Balkans has not
been the preferred foreign policy battlefield of the current US
government. Trying to make it into one now would offer too many
potential pitfalls, and few discernible benefits, what with the
former Yugoslavia being treacherous political grounds on the best of
days. Also, it would look too much like a retreat from Babylon, and
play neatly into the hands of Candidate Clark

possible, though.
Whatever the White House decides, one thing is a given: the Empire
isn't done with the Balkans.
Not by a long shot.
